Yea, but it is not working for you NOW. So it may not work so well later. There is no magic bullet in football, every asset has a liability.
Yes, this year. A year where we are down 4 backs, 3 O-lineman, and our Walter Payton candidate QB is not even healthy.
Yes, please use your myopic view to judge how ineffective our offense will be in the SBC.

Guys, we have a ton of respect for your program. Where we are going is better than where we are. Doesn't make it any easier to swallow, I know, but better things are coming.
Much respect for GaSouthern!

I'm not worried - yet - about next year. Right now we have the perfect storm for a mediocre/bad season.
Nothing to play for, tons of experimentation on offense, tons of injuries... its just not going our way this year. Next year, if we can stay healthy, I feel the O will really come together. Hopefully our D matures this season/off season and will be ready for the SBC.

The triple option works at every level.
I never understood folks saying "X" offense won't work at "Y" level. All offenses are built on execution. You execute, it works. You don't execute, it might still work, just depends on who you are playing and how bad they are.
I do wonder how it will affect recruiting on a different level (FBS), given the nature of the offense. Using multiple backs like that means a "star" player might not want to come there and share the ball. Super tough to get WR's, since a good year for them would be to catch 15-20 passes. QB passing is absolutely secondary in this scheme, so probably will be more converted RB's than true QB's.
None of those things are set in stone or anything, just openly curious how recruiting goes for Georgia Southern in the next few years, given what I perceive to be potential issues. Those "issues" could purely be my imagination though.

We will be fine next year. Too many variables going against us this year. Besides, the SoCon has good teams as we saw how chatty dominated GaSt and Samford took care of them as well.

If we were playing like we were last year, I'd still be confident we would do well in our first SBC year. If we play like this next year, we will get steam rolled by just about everyone. With all the various factors against us, we've taken a huge step back this year. I'm still confident the coaches can bring it all back together next year.
As far as the message board chatter.. now that our chips are down you can see who the real fans are and who are the characters who just like to run their mouths on the internet.

Georgia Tech sure seems to do pretty well with it and they're in a BCS conference.
That's debatable..

No worries. We are down this year, a little message board banter doesn't hurt nearly as bad as losing. :)
I'm still looking forward to getting revenge from 2005!

Southern will be fine we have recruited well and have good coaches. We will have to take a few juco players this year and next to fill out some spots on the D but we will be ok. For our O we don't need Stud WRs or RBs the smaller scatback and blocking wr will do just fine. The D is where we will need the Studs. Pass rushers are hard to come by and we are feeling that this season. We have been in on alot over last few recruiting cycles and have been beat out by FBS(BCS) schools. Guys that FBS carrot is a powerful thing.

I do not know if you guys coming from FCS schools ever discuss this, but there is an important asset you will be losing. Right now an FCS school can take a FBS transfer and play him right away. That really plays to those schools. A lot of very high quality prospects find out in their redshirt sophomore year and later that they are just never going to play for Bama, LSU, Florida State, UG@Athens. So their best and quickest route to PT, and possible NFL views are the FCS, not sitting a year at a weaker FBS school.

Georgia Southern has never signed very many FBS transfers so this question has not really came up on the Eagles message board.

RE: Furman 16 Ga. Southern 14
Tough year, the injuries have been unreal.
As far as our QB's go and recruiting, I think you have it backwards. Usually at the high school level, the best athlete on the field is the QB. Those guys are often then converted to running back, DB,WR or some other position at the college level. Our offense is often called a "high school offense" as teams attempt to insult us - but that fact helps us get QB's sometimes. We give some very good athletes a chance to continue to be the signal caller at the college level when most other programs will only offer them other positions. We hope THAT will help us continue to sign great QB's for our offense. Hopefully we sign some guys with the same running abilities who ALSO have the other element of great passing ability like some of our former guys (Tracy Ham, etc.).
Assuming SWOPE is back at 100% next season, we should be solid all the way around. I still hold great expectations for our first season FBS season. GATA

I honestly cannot think of any examples where a guy dropped down from FBS to FCS and made a major impact. People assume they just dominate, but you really never hear about them again once they go to the FCS.
If you find one, I guarantee you its the exception and not the rule.

I can think of a few in Louisiana alone, Bubby Bristor for ULM, Stan Humphries for I think ULM or Norwestern State. McNeese always have several Perriloux from LSU to a black historic college. Not saying these guys are usually massive hits or they would still be with the bigger programs, but they can be some serious upgrades. If you think this is not true fine.
