There were some threads on the realignment page back when realignment was going crazy. I don't remember who started the first one--but whenever a team was beginning to get a lot of mentions as a possible addition to a conference a thread would pop up that that school "was gaining speed". It became kind of a joke after a time.

The "on Tuesday" thing was because rumored realignment announcements were always going to happen "next Tuesday". Its kind of an inside joke and its used for a lot of schools. I wouldnt say its just about Memphis. Its been used about lots of schools at different times. Though it was a joke, its is true that many of the realignment announcements really did occur on Tuesdays.

The tuesday thing started out as Memphis but then became everytime a school was set to announce, rumors said they'd come out "next tuesday."

Houston also swore they were the flagship in CUSA, but that was early in new cusa, before ECU, UCF, and Tulsa won all the championships.

Memphis' BE announcments were always expected to come on Tuesday... then NEXT Tuesday.... but all we ever got were crickets for over a year...






"Gaining Speed" was a a stab at a Conference Realignment Board poster Miko(?) that labeled every schools possible move as ___ gaining speed... It was half joke/half serious... Heck at one point... speed was gaining speed LOL.


Not sure on the Houston one.

The real announcement of Memphis to the Big East occurred on a Wednesday.

But was leaked on a Tuesday.
