CBS Sports/Top 30 College Basketball Breakout Players
Here is their Number 1 player and the players from the American:

1. Mitch McGary
Michigan
Vitals: 6-10 | F
Comment: I almost feel bad picking McGary, but he fits both criteria – and is almost guaranteed to improve his numbers. He averaged 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in the NCAA tournament.

3. Montrezl Harrell
Louisville
Vitals: 6-8 | F
Comment: The sophomore showed flashes of his tremendous athleticism and talent last season, including going for 20 points and seven boards against Syracuse. Has to replace Gorgui Dieng.

17. Shaquille Thomas
Cincinnati
Vitals: 6-7 | F
Comment: The Bearcats are going to go with a smaller, quicker lineup this season – and Thomas could play a major role in that. He has the length and athleticism to be a factor; will he take that next step?

21. Quenton DeCosey
Temple
Vitals: 6-5 | G
Comment: With four starters – including Khalif Wyatt – gone, someone has to score for Fran Dunphy's Owls, right? That man could be DeCosey, who led the team in scoring on their European trip.

They should have said that Temple lost. 4 of its top 5 scorers, which it did.

Didn't say that was untrue. Cummings wasn't needed to score last year, this year is another story.

I think Justin Jackson having a monster season for the Bearcats is more likely than Shaq. I like Shaq's athleticism as much as the next guy, but he's in a battle for minutes at a crowded spot. Jackson looks like he made major improvements over the offseason and the post is all his this year if he can handle it.
