RE: So is Houston much like UCF today?
Okay guys, we're just going to disagree. You can have a good D and still lose. Not sure why that is hard to understand. Did the Dallas Cowboys have a bad O last week b/c they lost?
All I said was our D did not lose the game. Our O did. If we had converted 3 of those 5 FGs to TDS, we could have won. Or limited our turnovers on O.

BTW: UH has only given up 33 combined points in the 2nd half this season. That's less than a TD per game in the 2nd half.
And that number is a little distorted because 7 of those came off a blocked FG, not scored on the Coog defense. The defense has given up 5 points per game in the 2nd half.
That's a defense that steps up when the game is on the line and part of the reason why UH is 5-0.

I agree. Your D is good. So is ours. That's why I would keep mine. But as a Memphis fan, I'll keep ours. Any Memphis fan would say that. I was NOT trying to imply anything negative about the Houston D. Just proud of ours.

Memphis has improved dramatically and they are young. Bad coaching was holding them back. The current one is doing an excellent job. They will be very good in a year or two. Good defenses win.

That statement is too simplistic. You can be good on one side of the ball but unable to win most games if the other side is poor and/or special teams are lacking.

Memphis has a decent team. The Tigers played two of the better teams in the league and they were in it both games. A 4-4 or 5-3 conference run is not out of the question for Memphis.

The key is going to be whether we simply play to our opposition, or can actually close the deal against lesser conference teams.

If this is how you guys talk at 1-4, I'd hate to see how you guys talk at 2-3.

Huh? Let me rephrase. I'm saying it's possible that we have been playing UP to our opposition (gave UCF and UH fights), but perhaps that's all we can do, and won't be able to close the deal against teams with lesser records, either, so therefore might not win any more games (other than OOC UTM).
No way to tell yet. OTOH, besides Louisville. our remaining conference schedule is SMU, Cincy, UConn, Temple, USF and Temple. Right now, based on our performance to date, we could go 0-6 against them, or on the other end of the spectrum of possibilities, maybe 4-2 or 5-1.
Apparently you misunderstood what I meant in the shorter version.

I think that you're responding to the wrong poster with that comment. I agree with your comment in principle; we've got more than our share of chest-pounders when things go well (as do other programs).....I just think it's aimed at the wrong poster/post.

Works for me, except for all that extra typing I had to do.

I (and most others that actually watched their last 2 games vs UCF and UH) would.
Memphis D deserved to win the game...(held UH to just 1.3 yds per carry) but Memphis Offense had 4 more turnovers...plus, they had to settle for 5 FG's...as they would normally shut themselves in the fo when they got close.
