The guy had a long record of abusing women.

If you don't sit out a game for the brutal murder of your two year old son, what does it take?

I was thinking the same thing - surprised he would play. But, that guy has been through a lot. I'm sure football is his escape. So for at least 3 hours on Sunday afternoon he won't have to think about it. Or maybe he will. Maybe he will take it out against Carolina. Everyone has their own way to deal with loss.

All I know is I'll definitely be praying for him and the family. What a bad situation.

I agree. I will pray for him, his son, and his family.

I just hope he does not hurt himself trying to "take it out" on Carolina. AP is already a violent runner as it is.

I agree with the robot comment. What a horrific thing to happen, I'm greatful that I've never had to endure a loss like that. I can't even comprehend how I would react, so I can't judge him for the way he chooses to cope with it.

Sooner nation mourns with him. I can't imagine having to bury my child. Makes my chest hurt just thinking about it.

Terrible story. I heard it listening to Jim Rome on the radio today. Seemed like there was some doubt whether it was actually Petterson's son? Not sure if that was accurate reporting or has been cleared up since. In any event just one of those stories that challenges your faith in humanity.

My sister recently lost one about 14 mos old. I have an idea of what's going on. But adding on top of that the way it happened must be just insanely more difficult. I mean the guy must have an unimaginable amount of anger towards that vile scum bucket. I hope he has the strength to be able to deal with it appropriately and not make the situation worse, cause I'm not sure I'd have it.

Did he have any relationship with his son? I can't imagine playing football (a game) after my son is murdered. Some NFL players have kids all over the place and they are disconnected from the kids.

I hope I'm completely off base.

Yeah, I am not a violent person or even hot tempered, but if somebody deliberately harmed one of my children I would have a difficult time not winding up in jail myself.
