But there is at LEAST ONE western bowl each year though... 3 years in Texas at the AF bowl rotating with 3-years in Hawaii at the Sheraton bowl... that is before any other announcements and back-up deals that could increase that number.
Hawaii is not a "western" bowl. I mean yes technically it's as western as it gets, but that's not a bowl that teams in the west can travel to, which is what I assume they would want.

Effectively, the Hawaii Bowl is not a western bowl in the sense that its helpful in any way. It would be like calling a Dubai Bowl an eastern Bowl. Neither are even on the same continent.
The Hawaii Bowl is a filler slot. No school travels to the game in any meaningful numbers as its on Christmas Eve (most prefer to be with family) 5000 miles away. Its also very expensive. It's value is that it is an attractive bowl to sell to recruits. Basically, its a good trip for the kids. Its horrible for the fans.

I stated this many times. Yet when I complained that there would be virtually no western bowl slots, I was told that we would have the Armed Forces or HOD every year. In fact, Im pretty sure you were one of the folks that held that view. I know for a fact you said the west/east bowl balance was not really that out of wack. What say you now?
I say you're 100% wrong if you think I said we would have the AFB or HOD every year. I never made any predictions, IIRC.
Beyond that, why would you say that anybody on a message board has an expectation that, if not met, means we should be disappointed? Aresco or anybody else official never said anything like that.
Finally, what I said about east/west was that you were counting Memphis and Tulane as western teams, when in fact we only have 3 (SMU, UH and Tulsa), which is only 1/4 of the conference, so I thought you were emphasizing western bowls more than the numbers called for.
And I also agreed with you 100% that we should have gone for the NOLA Bowl. So please go take out your frustrations on somebody else.
Nobody is taking their frustrations out on you. If you never expected that--fine. But I know you read this board enough to know many did. Ive said for some time that the math didn't work on the Armed Forces being a full or close to full tie. I was told I was wrong...a lot.
I definitely never expected that. In fact, the reason I questioned you is that you had me convinced we would only get 1 or 2 slots, so when we got 3, I was pleasantly surprised.
And yes, I read this board enough and have followed the bowl threads, but honestly, I don't recall anybody saying we would get a full 6 AFB slots. You caught me by surprise by saying the expectation was 6.
But I don't care enough to comb back through all those threads. I just know it wasn't me.
And what I meant about Aresco is that I don't recall him ever saying anything that would lead anybody to think we would get 6 slots in the AFB, or even AFB/HOD.
many on this board stated as gospel that the AAC would be getting 6 slots through the HOD and armed forces.
Aha. I was only talking about the AFB. I just went back and saw that it was both bowls. May be correct. Still wasn't me, though.

Attack doesn't count Hawaii as a western bowl. I suppose it would be Far East or Asian to him. j/k AC.
But you have to admit, SMU, UH and Tulsa are much closer to Hawaii than any of the rest of us. :)

Oh, here's something else to crack on you for. Didn't you say you couldn't imagine more than 2 new bowls being authorized? I KNOW you started out saying only two. :)

Triple A not sure who you are referring too, but I will admit that I am surprised by the number of new bowls it looks like the NCAA will sanction I figure 3 or 4, but 5 really surprised me.
Detroit ACC vs B10 (Looks like it will replace Lil Ceaser)
Boca CUSA? vs G5 Coalition
Bahama G5 Coalition? vs G5 Coalition
Montgomery MAC vs SB
Miami AAC vs G5 Coalition

Well you didn't specify there was restrictions on "West," or that it had to be specific date not around christmas, in a specific not so west "west," and not away from the lower 48. To me, Hawaii is west, and more importantly its against west coast competition... but now I know and I won't make such a wild suggestion that Hawaii is in the college sports western realm.

Lil further information.
Dieter Kurtenbach @dkurtenbach 1h
C-USA will be the anchor of the Boca Bowl. MAC and AAC will provide the opponent.

Sounds like 3 slots for us in Boca. I wonder if we get 3 in the Bahamas, too. I hope so.

Haha, exactly. I think Attack's geography teacher taught him the west runs from New Orleans to New Mexico, and north to Oklahoma.

Right. It's 5 new games, but one game is removed (Little Caesar's), and the NCG is now a play-in game, not a direct bid, so there's really only 3 additional bowl games. I think that has to be the limit.

I think I said no more than 3. Boca, Bahamas, Miami, Montgomery, and Detroit. Subtract Liitle Cesar's. That's a net gain of 4 new bowls. I am surprised. That's 8 more bowl qualified teams needed each year. I wonder how long it will be before the first waiver for a 5 win team is needed.

In Houston we generally just refer to all that as Texas. Btw, my geography teacher did make it pretty clear that the west coast ended where the map turns blue.

Little Ceaser will be decided by the faction that runs that bowl and the MAC by the end of the current football season. They are working on keeping this CERTIFIED BOWL in Detroit at Lions Stadium before or after the B-10/ACC Detroit Bowl or moving it to another location.
