So why does Texas want to go east?

Ditching BU and TCU won't be as easy as you think...but it should be entertaining

RE: The Big 12 will blow up soon. (My Prediction)
The geography of Texas going west does not work as well as joining a conference with teams in the central time zone. This is why they like the big 12.
this also why I believe they will eventually join the SEC despite cultural differences and academic differences. If they can end up in a Division, with A&M, oklahoma and missouri, and lets say LSU, Arky, that would be an improvement over the current big 12.

Or, maybe, NC State and VT go to the SEC and the SEC and Big 12 both are at 16. Syracuse and goes to the AAC. Notre Dame, as usual, will do whatever it wants.
Why not go a step further? Leave UNC out of it altogether. No conference should want a school that promotes academic excellence while offering fake classes for many of their students - including ALL their athletes...

I would think that the PAC12 would still want Texas, Texas Tech, OU and OSU; who wouldn't? I think that PAC12 expansion is the only way that the B12 disbands.
I'm still surprised that they've passed on BYU (which would have made more sense than WVU- no offense Mountaineer fans).

We didn't pass on BYU, they weren't very interested at the time; they were trying to become the independent-minded Notre Dame of the west.
But things change; ND is now in a conference, and BYU will be too someday.

Ok, it's settled, a new conference has been formed. The new members are:
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
TCU
Texas Tech
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Boise State
South Florida
Central Florida
Baylor
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas leave for the PAC 12

BYU is in a conference just like Notre Dame is.

Agree adding Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC West would be a brilliant move by the SEC!
SEC West
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Arkansas
Missouri
LSU
Mississippi
Mississippi State
SEC East
Kentucky
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Georgia
Florida
Alabama
Auburn

Sounds great to outsiders but I don't see the SEC West teams voting to turn the division into that unwinnable meat grinder.
UT and OU won't be in the SEC.

A&M, Ark, LSU and Mizzou vote no just on general principle. UGA, UF, UTK, SCAR vote no b/c none of them want to deal with a realignment that puts 'Bama in the SEC East. You might get the East schools to stand down if you only moved Auburn and kept Mizzou in the East, but that's still 3-4 guaranteed no votes. As SEC expansions requires unanimous approval (either yes or abstain), this dream would be DOA.

I think they wouldn't hesitate to vote yes. But it would be a bad move for nearly everyone. The schedule would be too tough in both divisions.

Its possible the big 12 could cease to being around but it would take the pac 12 jumping to 18 or 20 with 6-8 big 12 school's.

Good point Bullet, and thats exactly why I think they dont vote yes.
OU and UT are great adds on paper but if they are in the West there are too many teams in there that are used to/feel entitled to 9+ win seasons that would be cut down to 7 or less win seasons that are unacceptable to their fan bases.
The ones who will especially be hurt are MS teams who get no benefit and are looking at 6-7 loss seasons every years.
Thats why I think there is an understanding that neither side (SEC West and UT/OU) even want this to come to a vote.
