WKU in at 84, surprised. I was thinking 100+ since we have nothing to hang our hat on so to speak.

Having a 70 ranking after week 1 helped you there...
USA Today must really think a lot of Troy to move us up 10 slots after a home conference win.

Looked like two evenly matched teams. 614 yards from Troy's offense, a game that was one play away from overtime, but 4 TOs sets us back in the 80s. It's ok. I think we're better than most think, but maybe not enough to share a title. Who knows though. All hinges on Bolt's defense (and cutting turnovers on offense).

Those early league games have really thrown things for a loop. While a team like ULL has not had the opportunity to prove itself against level competition, teams like Troy and Texas State have strong starts because they took advantage of playing and winning games against on level competition early.
Then you have a team like ASU, who just started league play 1-0 with a big win by all accounts, but now doesn't play another conference game for 5 weeks.
I think Troy is probably better than what most thought, but we really wont know for sure until they start playing other league competition.

All I know is that Troy can damn sure move the pumpkin' down the field. Anybody with a half way suspect defense is in trouble.

Outside of 2011, that's been true of Troy every year. Its their defense that is the difference between their championship teams, and their 6-6 teams.

In 2012, 6 of the 7 losses were by 7 points or fewer... And the 7th one we lost by 13 I believe.
We have to start winning these close games.

Reminds me a lot of ASU under Roberts. We had considerable talent, but we lost so many close games (especially on the road) that it seemed like our players did not believe we could win a close game.
After we beat WKU in Bowling Green in 2011, it seemed that everything changed, and next thing you know we reeled off 8 straight league wins. We snuck around some close games with FIU and USA after the WKU loss in 2012, and suddenly it seemed the players knew they could beat anyone.
Losing is a mentality that is tough to replace. Troy is now at a point where most of its players were not around for the championships.

Wow, somewhat surprised ULM at 62. Ahead of Arkansas, WVU, and Mississippi St., etc. A State, your ranking is very impressive. I remember the SBC used to barely have anyone within the two digits.
