RE: Sun Belt Players of the week. Week #1
Offensive Player of the Week

Corey Robinson (Troy, Sr., QB)

Troy senior quarterback Corey Robinson broke an NCAA record, three Sun Belt records and two Troy records in Troy's dramatic 34-31 victory over UAB. Robinson completed 30-of-32 passes for 319 yards and a touchdown; his 93.8 completion percentage broke Steve Sarkisian’s record of 91.2 percent set in 1995 for quarterbacks with at least 30 completions. Robinson broke the Sun Belt career passing yardage and completions records held previously by Ryan Aplin. Robinson tied Troy's mark for consecutive completions with 20 and set the school mark for completion percentage in a game.

Defensive Player of the Week

David Mayo (Texas State, Jr., LB)

Recorded the first two interceptions of his career at Texas State in the fourth quarter in Texas State’s 22-15 victory at Southern Miss … first interception came with 10:34 left to play on Texas State’s 15-yard line to halt a potential Golden Eagle scoring drive … second interception was at the Bobcat 46-yard line on final Southern Miss possession with five seconds remaining in the game … also recorded a nine-yard quarterback sack on a fourth and 10 play with 1:38 left to play on the Golden Eagles’ previous possession … tied for the team lead with six total tackles, including four unassisted stops.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Will Scott (Troy, Sr., K)

Will Scott booted a 30-yard field goal in overtime to lift Troy past UAB 34-31 in the season opener. Scott also connected on an 18-yard field goal earlier in the game and averaged 46.3 yards on three punts, including a 50-yard kick. It was the second career game-winner for Scott who kicked a 42-yarder against FIU with 11 seconds remaining.

Troy's qb had a good game, but we are talking about UAB, and this aint bball. Doughty looked like a Heisman, against a much better team.

All due respect, but Robinson broke SBC and FBS records, and did it with a bum shoulder, he earned the POW honor. I'm sure Doughty will have more opportunities, just Robinson had a better week, and I have no bias in this opinion.

I am sure that this is just me being a homer, but it was UAB. I would look Heisman worthy against UAB, and Troy struggled to win that game.

30/32 is badass no matter the competition - even against your little sisters in the back yard.

30/32 is beyond bad ass. It is something we may never see again at this level.

Those are some insance numbers by the Troy QB. Can't believe he played that lights out and it still took overtime to win. Congrats to the QB for an impressive game. Wow.

Those are big words. Perhaps we should arrange a meeting for you with the UAB defense so we can see your impressive Heisman performance first hand. Stop being a homer.

I don't care what UAB's defense is like...even for college football teams (especially this early in the season), it would be tough to go out there and be 30 for 32 against air...QB's under/over throw the ball, recievers run wrong routes, recievers drop balls, etc.

This award is nice. Congrats to Robinson, but irrelevant in the large scheme of things. The important question will be whether or not he can lead his team to a bowl game.

A fair point. I have no doubts about Robinson or Deon. Whether Troy gets to a bowl game or not will depend on much the defense improves this season. With a likely win this week, we'll have 10 games to win 4 to become bowl eligible. 10 games to win 5 and I'll feel more comfortable, but I like our chances.

Oh come on. It is a nice thing for the players wheher you think they're meaningful or not.

It also shows the rest of us the standouts in our conference and who to look for, or at, during the season. It also gets their name on scouts' radars.

Yeah, a bowl is the ultimate goal but don't rain on their parade.

Also while he was 30-32 the 2 incompletions were spot on, the recievers just dropped the 2 passes. Robinson could have EASILY been 32-32.

As for Uab being weak.... Normally I would agree... This year I do not... Uab was a good team and I won't be surprised to see them in a bowl this year. And most any Trojan would agree with me on this.

Sorry, but they must not be that good if they're allowing 30-32 passing.

LOL at this guy. You couldn't complete 30/32 passes without a defense on the field. Congrats to Robinson, thats a hell of a game.
