This is a news story from what I assume to be a local news organization.

Has any national or even larger news organizations come to this same conclusion?

Did you RTFA? Area Development publication came to the conclusion, not KPEL.

I read the article. Then I visited Area Development's page.

And it's still a joke to me. Look, I'm absolutely sure Lafayette is a wonderful city. But not wonderful enough to be #1.

I totally understand why you might consider it a joke. Bowling Green coming in behind us at 350. You also come in behind the Hoax home of 99, and on and on in the belt.

Of course they list the joke reasons for the rank. Good luck with that pale green hue.

RE: For any future players or students....
Lafayette brings the best of all political worlds:
It brings the good arts culture of the liberals.
It brings the economic sense of the growth conservatives, but leave the yahoos and theocrats behind.
The socialists give it Lafayette Utilities and Lafayette Fiber, which are far superior to their private sector counterparts. (governing owning businesses, not a food stamp, is the essence of socialism, but don't tell that to the republicans who put those socialist programs in place).
And much of its middle class uses the public school system, which is a big key to having a minimal underclass.
Now it has problems - sprawl, created by a few Real Estate tycoons, some levels of intolerance. But, overall, it is a middle class haven.

Far as I'm concerned, Louisiana is a great place for a bunch of reasons.
Have friends from Batchelor down near Baton Rouge. I loved spending time down there as a kid many long years ago on the Old River.

Love the whole zydeco ******* culture. Just awesome.

I'm sure the SEC is running the phones to try to invite you guys because an lolworthy "area development" company listed you guys as #1 in the nation.

If you choose to blindly take to heart anything you read on the internet, be my guest. If Billy Bob's Area Development Crew ranked Bowling Green as the "#1 City in the Nation", I wouldn't post it here. It's an opinion given by a group that thinks they have a lot of credibility.

If you don't like what I have to say, there is an ignore button you can use, as you've pointed out to other members.
