TU #26 in USA Today's CFB Countdown
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca...w/2653657/

The writer projects a possible 10-2 record heading into the conference title game for Tulsa.

His assesment of last years D as average was incorrect though. They were probably one of the top 15-25 defenses in the nation last year.

Anyways, I'm super excited for the season. Everyone should tune into the OU-TU game and the Iowa State at Tulsa game if we end up going undefeated up to those points.

Really good to see as far you and the AAC are concerned. Admittedly, we aren't too familiar with you guys around these parts, but our fanbase will respond to playing quality teams regardless. Looking forward to playing you guys when you come on board in 2014.

RE: TU #26 in USA Today's CFB Countdown
This was the best overall assessment of Tulsa football by any of the preseason picks I've read. This writer had obviously read up on Tulsa & made fairly accurate observations.

ESPN's write up on Tulsa was embarrassing. The lady who wrote it obviously hadn't done any homework. Anyone on this board could've spent an hour looking up Tulsa's team & come up with better information.

I also look forward to playing UCONN. I grew up visiting relatives in NYC & on Long Island quite a bit, but never made it up to Connecticut. Hopefully, I'll get a chance in the next few years.

I'm really looking forward to playing Tulsa again. Our games are always a battle and close. Feels like we've built a little bit of a rivalry with them and that is really good for our conference going forward. I wish it were us representing so highly in the preseason but I'm really glad to see Tulsa showing some power going into the AAC too. It's good for all of us. November 9th is circled Golden Hurricane... Bring it!

It's confusing enough with USF and UCF. Now we need to work out a deal on "TU"

Temple TU
Tulsa TU
And I guess Tulane TU

Temple has a cheer built around T-U. We can't give that up!

I guess that I just haven't been paying attention through the years, but since the name of the university is The University of Tulsa, why isn't it UT? If it was Tulsa University, I'd understand TU, but that's not what the university website has as the school's name. I guess that I just overlooked it when "TU" had been used in the past.

If i'm not mistaken, most media broadcasts report "Tulsa" or "Temple" or "Tulane".

I don't predict much discrepancy.

It seems to be a "West of the Mississippi" thing... and it is annoying as hell to me.

Pretty impressive IMO. I hope they can make a splash this year. They give us the potential to see 2 (future) AAC teams in the BCS.

Can't wait to beat Tulsa again. It's always fun ruining their conference title hopes.

RE: TU #26 in USA Today's CFB Countdown
We call TU because in Oklahoma if you say UT you are talking about Texas. None of the other schools have that problem really (maybe Tulane a bit.) we have T-U chants as well. Did anyone read the title to this thread and think, " wow Tulane is up to 26 this year!?" (Or temple)

About you ecu fans. I don't like playing you at home again, but if it means anything we have a couple of 6-5 to 6-7 tight ends of our own now. None of that funny business this year unless its done by us lol.

All the old big 8 flagship schools did that. OU, NU, MU, KU, etc. I'm guessing Tulsa was just going with the flow of the schools in their region.

That makes sense to me, that would make it an accepted regional nomenclature.
