Independence gets last SEC pick, NOT Birmingham bowl
Birmingham bowl gets #9 SEC pick, according to SEC release. This is much better news. Should get filled most if not all of the time.

Posted this in another thread, it's about the best news possible for that bowl. Also makes losing out on the Indy Bowl a lot less upsetting to me.

The SEC has officially renewed its bowl tie-in with Birmingham's bowl as a lower-tier game for the conference.

The American Athletic Conference is expected to be the primary partner opposite the SEC, assuming the SEC produces enough eligible teams. Last week, ESPN Regional Television -- which owns Birmingham's bowl -- reached a backup agreement with the ACC for Birmingham.

Birmingham's bowl will have the first selection of available teams following the pool of six bowls. The Advocare V100 Bowl in Shreveport, La., will have the next pick of available SEC teams to play the ACC.

Yup. About the only good news for the day. lol....Aresco Im sure is hard at work hammering out an agreement to land the coveted #5 CUSA selection for Miami. Good Lord this line looks weak. The only thing I can say is that its at least better than any other G-5 conference.

Im now leaning more and more toward signing just a handful of primary bowl ties (Military, Ft Worth, New Orleans, St Pete, maybe Birmingham) and instead signing a backup agreement with a pool of 8-10 P5 bowls to fill out our dance card. If the backup deal is drawn up to give us the same payout as the primary tie to these bowls, it would be very lucrative for us to arrange such a deal. Not to mention, that's the only way to have ANY chance at a suitable #1 type bowl for our champ in the current landscape.

9th really means 10th or 11th considering at large bids to the 6 major bowls.

The good news is that if the SEC can't fill Birmingam, then the Independence Bowl will have an opening for us.

Military vs ACC
Beef's vs. 2/6 ACC
Birmingham vs. SEC

That's two more than any other G5 conference so far. Baby steps.

Instead of wild-card selections should the either or both the ACC or SEC not fill their AdvoCare V100 Bowl slots, Setters is focused on back-up plans including “regional” conferences.

“We hope to get that finished up in the next week or so,” Setters said. “Given the current landscape -- we might see a couple more bowl games added in the next couple of weeks -- it’s important to have a backup agreement in place.”

Probably both. I don't see the Sun Belt getting a backup though.

He's good. Maybe not great but very good. I expect him to be a starter and possibly lead your team in receptions if he's fully recovered. He was one of our top 2 receivers prior to getting injured last year, maybe behind Andre Davis. He would have put up bigger numbers if he had stayed healthy. I will always remember the big TD he scored against Florida State when we defeated them at their house. Watch at about the 1:53 mark.

Edit, I looked up his stats from 2011 and he had 43 catches for 530 yards in only 8 games due to injury. Over a 12 game schedule that would have been about 65 catches for nearly 800 yards if he had stayed healthy. The only thing holding him back was various injuries.
