The series is sometimes close and sometimes humiliating to the other team. Fans on both sides get worked up over it.

And there isn't any bad blood in UCF/ECU??? It's still an exciting game... sure. I just think Tulsa/Houston, like UCF/ECU will be overshadowed by the in-state game.

It's not like there can't and won't be multiple rivalry games. ECU/UCF has become a bit of a rivalry over the years, but obviously UCF/USF is going to be a bigger game. ECU/Navy doesn't have the feel of a rivalry yet but I do think it could with the teams being relatively close and the large military presence in the state of NC.

Ring knockers will never look at any public university as a rival, ever. And yeah, I know they're public, but only in that they are funded publically. They are much closer academically to the privates. Tulsa, Tulane, SMU, maybe, but they will never consider any of the publics rivals. We will probably have some meaningful games with them, but they'll never consider us a rival.

If that were the case I'd do this.

UConn / Umass
Army / Navy
USF / UCF
ECU / Temple
Cincy / Memphis
Houston / Tulsa
SMU / Tulane

That's fine. SMU and Houston just don't care about each other. No animosity just a general disinterest from both fanbases.

Maybe I'm unique; I'd rather beat Houston than Tulane.

But when I'm at a Houston-SMU game, I sense more crowd excitement than at a SMU-Tulane game (although neither pairing stirs deep emotions).

Our OOC opponents are our true rivals

I don't see why we can't have room for both Houston vs. Tulsa and Houston vs. SMU. Besides, before he went to Okie State -- hell, even after he graduated from there, my late friend Tulsaman rooted for the Golden Hurricane. In fact, you could hear his voice on the broadcast of the 2011 matchup there in Tulsa. And yes, that game had a lot of importance to it for both teams. Then again, the series usually does. I can't wait to resume the series when you guys get here next year. Good luck in CUSA this year, Tulsa. Houston and the rest of the American will be waiting for you. 04-cheers

He wasn't saying that, Armored. He was only comparing our rivalry with Tulsa to our rivalry with SMU.
