Well if we cut Cal's time to just his first 4 years here too, it equal. Can't compare a 9 year run to the 4 year run of a rookie coach.

Pastner can never make me forget Cal's run. Just like Cal's run could never make me forget Dana Kirk's run.

Why would we have to forget them?

Exactly. I loved Cal. Until I didn't love Cal. 04-cheers

For a guy who just completed his his 4th year, the future sure looks bright for both him and us. Heck, the future may be now with this coming season.

Maybe that should have been the tone of the article as opposed to "making them forget Cal."

I support Josh. I've been critical but I think he's done a great job keeping us relevant when we could have easily went down the drain. We all know he's a great recruiter. Now we have to help him be the best X's and O's coach he can be. He doesn't have to be great (Cal wasn't), but he can be better.

Seems like Josh is targeting more high IQ players as of late. Certainly can make him look like a smarter x and o guy in the near future.

Sounds funny but there is some truth in there.

You wanna see something dumb... check out The Bullitt Building in your Seattle Times... One of the looniest building stories I have ever read. Check here: http://seattletimes.com/html/businesstec...esxml.html Read the comments. Check out the one about "if you wanna stir up some shitte, just send you down to the basement". It's a hoot. Green gone nuts.

Enjoy 04-cheers (sorry to distract ya, but saw you posted here and thought I'd just say hi.)

We should take it easy on Buckeye Pete since he's relatively new around here. He doesn't know we've discussed this before and what a beat down other posters have taken while taking that same position.

In fact, many of those other posters are still around.

Newly registered poster, pushing the same tired agenda.

Wait a minute......

Good coaches already know and practice using X’s & O’s. The challenge is forming a team of players who can ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND and EXECUTE the plays in real-time games.

IMHO we have those players this season. Experience + talent.

Practice, practice, practice………and practice some more. Practice until you fall out.

I agree that Josh has done a great job. People weren't exactly jockeying for position for this gig 5 years ago. But I'm pretty sure Josh doesn't need our help to grow as a coach, unless you're talking about our patience and support. I think this will be a pivotal year for both Pastner and our beloved Tigers.

I agree, I won't ever forget. But you can't cut Cal's time to 4 years. We are talking about what has been accomplished. It's not theory or speculation to see how the Cal era turned out. He won 14 tourney games while at Memphis. It is fact.

If you are going to compare it specifically to the 4 year run of a rookie coach, then you have to cut Cal's to his first 4 years here.

How is it fair to compare a 9 year run of a former NBA and F4 coach to a 4 year run of a rookie?

If you just wanna talk about Cal's record in totality, that's fine. But if you're gonna make the comparison to Josh, it has to be about their first 4 years here. We can't predict what Josh is going to do the rest of the decade.

Though I do feel strongly CJP will have us in another final 4 within the next 4-5 years. Maybe more than one.

And like has been stated many times over - Cal took over a program in much worse shape than Pastner and played a more difficult schedule.

Josh has done fine, but to act like they took over the same exact program and Josh has outperformed John is intellectually dishonest.

He has to figure that out for himself either by way of studying the game more, help from others, or I don't know. I think he's getting better already but he can get better.

I'm hip. Although the Upward team I coached was the only team in the league with a half-court press and an in-bounds play. Neither worked, BTW.

Cal took over a middle tier C-USA program in a much tougher conference, built by Tic Price.

Josh took over a top 10 national program built by Cal.

This is not an insult to Josh and I think he can get us back to that Top 10 level that he inherited. It is just fact and stating the obvious.
