Without the ability to recruit superior athletes (Ga Tech), the triple option seems easy to gameplan around (especially when teams see it multiple times in consecutive years, such as will happen in a conference). I'm not sure about Navy's ability to do anything but flounder in the AAC. I hope I'm wrong.
Please leave ECU/Navy jokes at the door.
I think Navy will consistently win in the AAC. They may not contend for a title but they will make a good sold bowl eligible showing consistently each year. I think they are a solid addition to the AAC on a number of levels.

That would be a massive downgrade. I have a question. It seems like some (not all) of the new addition teams fans are pinning away for the good old Conference USA days, why is that? I would think that you all would be happy to have left, and looking at your programs as having stepped up, why the desire to look back? Its not a slight or knock, i'm just curious.
Familiarity? I for one have no desire to share a league with any more CUSA schools. Not a knock on SMU, Tulsa or UH but I really have no desire for ECU to be in a league w/ schools in Texas/Oklahoma either. However, I understand that options are very limited beyond the P5 and what we have in AAC.
Regardless, this is a hell of a lot better than what CUSA has become.

I'm for anyone that can put more than 40,000 butts in seats and challenge the top athletic budgets.
If it's USM, great. If it's UMass, more power to them.
So long as they meet those criterion, and possibly have history with the current members, it doesn't matter.

If Navy opted out, it be interesting to see if we could nab 5 of the attractive MWC Teams (or 4 plus BYU) since they would have a strong regional block.

Navy and Air Force do not resemble Army and their CUSA failures. First, Navy has been to what 10 bowls in the last 11 years? That means regularly winning - Air Force is usually in the upper half of the Mountain West Conference too. So I'm not sure why people assume Navy will suck, they are not Army who sucked from day 1 in CUSA, not some eventual "teams figured us out problem."

Navy has beaten Army 11 years in a row and is 8-2 vs Air Force in past 10 years

Fair enough, it makes sense.

Oh ....Crap Navy is still coming..... I have never seen a beating like Navy laid on us in Dowdy Ficklen a few years ago....If I never see Navy again it will be too soon. Sigh I bet they end up in a division with us too. And I thought Southern Miss was bad. Sigh....
I feel Navy will be quite competitive in this conference in football and none of us can really afford to sleep on them.

Navy is going to be the team on the schedule that no one wants to play. A team gets 3 maybe 4 practices to prepare for their triple option. Even when you know it is coming it is extremely difficult to stop. I am hoping like hell that the Bearcats are in the opposite division of them so we see them once every few years.

And you lose 2-3 players from the chop blocks that aren't called

As for ECU ?? ECU will be just fine playing Navy IMO. We had a very undisciplined DC who was in over his head and could not game plan for Navy. Skip Holtz almost beat Navy in a fairly low scoring affair his first year when he was still cleaning up John Thompsons mess. We have the athletes on Defense to deal with Navy and hopefully now we have the Defensive Coordinator that can teach the simple logic of lane assignments when dealing with the triple option.
Annapolis is a awesome road trip and I think over all that Navy is a solid FB member of the AAC for 2014 and beyond
I agree Navy has a better program than Army, they should fare just fine in the AAC. Hopefully ECU can figure that option out b4 2015 though!
As for Army I'd still love to see them join the AAC as well. So much tradition with both programs and two great stadiums to visit.
The Army-Navy game would be a great end of the year showcase for the AAC.

The real question is how many players on teams opposing Navy and the Triple option will get knee injuries each year?

This, look at the ACC, every team that plays GT loses at least one during the game. I understand these guy are going into service after they are done at Navy, but damn I got tired of seeing their lead blocker go right for the knees of our players every time. I mean well outside the tackle box and sometimes 5-7 yards down field. Sorry, but damn it that's a penalty, freak'n call it. And, Navy stop using illegal blocks that injure the other teams players, it's called honor and integrity.
