A random comparison of CUSA, MWC, AAC social media
Not to stir the waters but on a purely social media standpoint, compare the likes on facebook and twitter of the 3 best G5 conferences:
Facebook-
AAC- 32,081
MWC- 18,778
CUSA- 9,269
Twitter-
AAC- 18,362
CUSA- 16,028
MWC- 12,801
Now AAC benefits greatly from starting recently in a more techno savvy world. If the other conferences had such a timely birth they may have more. But clearly the AAC has a burgeoning fanbase. No where near that of an SEC though with 200,000+ likes.
Just an interesting tidbit that I noticed when facebooking conf. information today.

On that note, I'd also ask for all of us to follow the American on these social networks to show our support.

You do realize that those likes and followers were built over years as the Big East? Big East got the social media handles/names, while the AAC got the likes/followers. I don't know about Twitter, but I know when the switch happened in June the Facebook page was over 31,000 (and I think almost to 32,000).

So you telling me that Big East fans are still following the American? Why?

Definitely, and ACC/WVU/Rutgers fans, too, but it does leave the AAC open to unlikes. Do you think all of the fans of teams slated to join the AAC went and unliked the C-USA? I'm sure some will, but slowly over time. How many, what percentage, at what rate? I have no idea.
Anyone that's no longer active on Facebook might never think to unlike something. Anyone that is active might just hide AAC posts instead of go and unlike them. ...and others just won't care. Liking is easy, unliking requires people cleaning up their profile or feeds.
edit: Should add, Facebook has made efforts to make unliking more difficult by making unsubscribe more prominent. They want likes and discourage unlikes. In the past I think I've read less than half of Facebook users have ever unliked something. I don't know, search it.

Go look at the Facebook page. The history of likes in the last month for the AAC is a little over 200 new likes, not tens of thousands.
You can also go to the Big East's facebook page and see 75% or so of the 1900 likes occurred in the last month.
Not sure what you think I'm lying about, this just happened a month or two ago.

It doesn't really matter. The likes are still there so the perception to an avg person will be there. If I'm a recruit I won't know better. If I'm an exec I won't really care. #'s are #'s.

Definitely, they were a valuable keep for the AAC while handing the addresses over to the Big East. Image isn't about fairness. I wasn't trying to imply they were worthless, just that the conclusions were misguided. Accuracy is important in trying to analyze information even if it doesn't change the information's inherent value.
