Don't forget ULL and New mexico Sate to balnce out the divisions. UMASS is a state flagship as well so the simply must be in the mix.

Add one more to the west & in reality is the perfect type of Conference. 18, two Div of 9, perfect round robin per Div with no crossover. Then a Championship between Div.

People can ridicule all they want, but in reality this is the perfect counter punch to all this division 4 talk. ESPN / AAC and all the schools out west might be able to pull this off. There is absolutely no way a conference with Air Force, Boise State, SDSU, BYU, Cincinnati, UConn, USF, UCF, SMU, Houston, etc... gets left out of a Division 4. It would be the last rescue boat off the Titanic.

It would essentially be 2 separate conferences that share a title game - like the merger idea from a few years ago, but now under one brand.

Oy, not this **** again. So tell me how this is different than not including the AAC and MWC as currently constructed?

6 16-team (2 would have to be culled from that AAC) conferences in Div. 4 makes more sense to me than 5.

I'm not really understanding the hate in this thread for an idea like this. If it would get us into Div. 4, what would be the problem?

If the last team is BYU you probably have a winner here. If you can't get them in big fight in MW for that last spot. I agree something like this is probably the only hope for a lot of us to stay in the big boy lead and have the hope of growing out program's status.

I would personally like to see 4 regional 16 team conferences in D1 and a corresponding D2 for each conference or division with a relegation system. Tulsa would start D2 replace Kansas in the Big 12 in year 2 and never look back. I know this would never happen but its great to dream.

This article intrigued me last year. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...relegation

It's not hate for the idea, at least from me. It's the rationale that this somehow would force the inclusion of the other teams if the two existing conferences essentially merged, because of the strength of the schools. If that were the case, the conferences as constructed would wield the same power. They don't. Plus if you were going to merge, an 18 team conference including everyone would be too much. You'd have to make some sacrifices and trim it down to a neater cleaner, leaner league. And even then, you risk the P5 getting together and simply deciding to lop off the two or four best, then still leaving the rest out.

RE: There is no way on earth Divison 4 wouldn't include this league (Expanded AAC):
Back when we were originally getting started I wanted to have a complete 8 team west coast and 8 team East coast league. With the champs of each division meeting in the Conference championship game. There would have only been 1 crossover game for each side which would have saved so much money. Then the conference could have arguably been a top 4 league in football and top 2 in basketball adding those MWC teams.

It's just didn't work out and Aresco didn't read our posts on it lol.
