I have not had a chance to review the document but thanks for posting it. Did it say what the next planned academic and athletic construction is planned for main campus?

I did see the page though where we were going to more than double our research space on the health campus as that should help us in many ways; but especially regarding our national rankings.

Belk Dorm demolition is coming up soon (Winter 2013/14). That is the biggest project that has a clear start date and funding.

Most of it is the main campus and expanding the main toward downtown, some new dorms, office space, academic buildings, etc.

The next immediate event is the closing of Founders Drive near Bate. Also the closing of the parking lot near Howell and Austin. Also there is advanced planning on a $72 million, 140,000sqft Women and Children's Clinic and 900 space parking deck.

Belk has construction fencing around it...there is a lot of asbestos in there, so that demo will likely take awhile.

A couple of downtown dorms were having renovations done to them this summer before students come back.

The Wendy's on 10th St is closed and looks to be coming down at some point.

The new student center is funded but the start date is still fluid. I was told not long ago that construction would start no latter than 2015.

Also, during freshmen orientation two incoming swimmers mentioned the coaches said the pool and diving area would be renovated in a year or two... That could be coach and recruiting talk but Holland has mentioned that being next on the to-do. You could speculate that if that does occur Minges will be gutted and the College of HHP will also receive its new building(s) across Charles from the track, next to the Belk building. Obviously speculating here, but the College of HHP has its plan posted in the advising center as if it is "coming soon." Compher and J better get to fundraising!

Yeah, I'm betting the pool wing of Minges is the next to come after the practice facility part is done...it just makes sense with all of the other facilities being done. Probably just student fees and academics to pay for it since classes use the pool.

One thing I noticed in the MP was the bricking of the Med School building similar to what was done to Tyler Hall on College Hill. That would really update the look of the entire Health Science campus and bring it some uniformity.

If your talking about Minges Natatorium, yes and it's badly needed. Also, I think the plan is to replace Belk with newer buildings.

I think Belk will get replaced with 2 separate "suite style' of dorms with a pool in between or something similar.

if you think about it...there's an outdoor pool at the Rec. Center students use, however there's nothing up at College Hill IIRC.

That is correct.

Also, I think they are planned to be 8 stories high. We're also putting in a pedestrian walk way that will go from the the end of College Hill Dr. between the dorms, across 14 to the Athletic Complex. Should start to tie the campus to gather nicely.

Belk is listed as a Phase 1 and Phase 2, so I would expect the demo to happen (which will take time), then the first building built furthest from Tyler, then working their way back.

An interesting thing I noticed in the MP was that it calls for the area between 14th St and the Athletics complex (where the walking path will go) to be entirely wooded. It was just recently paved for parking. The MP seems to go out of its way to make this open space...maybe the parking is temporary until a deck is built at the bottom of the hill (also called for in the MP).

Will this be an above road walking path? If not then why bother?

Each dorm is going to be 4-5 stories tall.
