RE: Fox Sports 1 Strategy Vs ESPN
I have no problem with FS1 succeeding, I just don't want our games on that network. I prefer ESPN.

The only objections I'd have to being on FS1 are these:
1. It is not a "default" channel as yet. It will take some time before people automatically hit the channel to see what sports are on.
2. Their best properties a niche interest sports and second and third choice of the higher interest programs. Me? I'll have the channel number memorized because of the soccer content, but most people won't and they won't have an abundance of must watch games.
3. The marketplace is changing. If ala carte or something similar comes around, ESPN is well positioned by holding key properties to raise their fees dramatically and sell only to interested sports fans via subscription or online delivery. FS1 won't be positioned to do that. It is one thing to buy an ESPN subscription at $30 to $50 a month and an entirely different thing to add a $20 to $50 a month Fox Sports package to it. What is even worse for FS1 is the people who might pay $30 a month because of a niche sport will lose interest in making that investment if they lose the amount of content they are getting. If you go from say 30 motor sport races per month to 20 and those ten are replaced with games like Pac-12 North # 5 playing Pac-12 South #6 you aren't likely happy.
4. If they fail to secure Big 10 top tier rights in 2017 they don't get another chance for something that good for another 5 years. At that point five years later we have a better idea what the new market looks like and most likely ESPN is even stronger and has been using new market strategies for several years occupying that space more powerfully than ESPN.

I don't want to put my bet on the horse likely to lose the race.

Didn't know this, but it was in a DRC 7/28/13 article. Income from TV last year for Belt teams was $40,000 per.
