Its been announced but its not official yet.

Has we even announced anything? It's freaking July 17, and our schedule does not say where the Cincy game is being played.

We Coogs are talking among ourselves about what to nickname the new stadium. Can you visualize " The Cage"? Also the money TV shot is through a notch in the upper deck that highlights the beautiful Houston skyline . Concession and fan day experience will be second to none in the nation !
A special treat for hard core party people will be our "Party Plaza(s) a little like the Dallas Cowboy Plazas .

Get ready to get your Red on and party !
Go Coogs !

I like "The Cage" especially with added connection to the hand sign of yours. Also, really like utilizing the skyline in the sightlines for the stadium itself. Anything that increases the panoramic appeal of a stadium is all good in my book and makes every stadium their own, rather than just some hulking monstrosity in the middle of a field. If you ever make it up to Nippert Stadium, you'll understand what I mean when I say we have VERY unique panorama.

I am looking forward to visiting you folks .
Go Coogs !

No they don't. Some are reinforced concrete portions fitted together, some are full blown steel / aluminum-ish erector set style like UCFs, and some are a mix of steel beams w/ concrete decking like Houston is doing.

If the stadium is full nothing else matters.

Exactly.

Every stadium, including the latest ballparks in MLB and the latest NFL stadiums, have steel skeletons. This is not the same thing that you have at UCF and the Columbus crew's stadium, where aluminum or another alloy metal is used instead of concrete as the base of the bleacher seats themselves

The bottom line is that you need steel to support the structure. What do people think holds up the grandstands at any other stadium? Almost all high rise buildings (offices, apartments, libraries, etc use a combination of steel and reinforced concrete in their construction).

I sure feel sorry for that poor guy in the brown suit in the foreground.
First, his suit is horrendous and secondly he seems to be sinking down into the concrete.

No that is along the north edge. There will be a light rail system that runs along the northern most side and connects to the other major areas of Houston (Downtown/Midtown, Medical Center, and Reliant Stadium).

It is absolutely ON campus, just along the northern edge.

This is CougarRed's image but it shows where it is in relation to the campus.

Lookin good. I wish our leadership would understand the importance of having an on campus stadium in the master plan.

Especially now that the Liberty Bowl turned its back on Memphis and its new conference

The Cage sounds good, but I was also thinking of something like "The Den" like a cougar's den. (Or would that be a lion's den? I don't remember.)

On second thought, "The Cage" is a great nickname. 04-cheers
