Article praises FAU; slams Sun Belt
Quote:The conference realignment carousel has been spinning for years while FAU stood outside the fence without a ticket to the ride.

The Owls finally received their pass in November when Conference USA came calling. The offer was an easy to accept. C-USA member schools receive in the neighborhood of $2 million a year through TV contracts – which is almost $2 million more than Sun Belt schools make.

When the Owls first announced they said the move would happen no later than the 2014-15 season. Turns out FAU wasn't interested in waiting that long.

In January FAU announced the move would happen in July, meaning the Owls football team will play in C-USA for the upcoming season, with the other sports following.

Why it's important: The Sun Belt was a good starter conference for FAU football (and that's the sport that necessitated the move) but that conference is now in rapid decay. Sure, many of the Owls old SBC foes have or will make the move to C-USA too, but that doesn't diminish the move. At least FAU wasn't left behind to play FCS schools (They also never have to visit Troy or Louisiana-Monroe again – reasons in themselves to make the move).

RE: Article praises FAU; slams Sun Belt
"But the biggest reason the move to Conference USA is the most important story for FAU over the past year is that it gives FAU fans a reason to believe the Owls are moving forward as a program. The move restored hope that FAU can some day join the elite schools across the nation. With one quick move, there is suddenly a reason to have faith in FAU again."

They needed a reason to have faith in their program?
They plan to join the elite schools across the nation?

The article is right on the money. I have no problem with it.

I guess they plan on joining the SEC in a few years.

He left off the "and get their butts whooped" part from the "they never have to visit Troy or Louisiana-Monroe again" part.

The dollars are totally wrong, so I have to have a serious doubt to the entire article. No doubt FAU has often expressed desire to be in a conference like the Big East was about ten years ago. We all have dreams.

FWIW: Not many FAU fans like OwlAccess.com because of pieces like this.
I'd hate FAU's last day in the SBC be surrounded with this laughable article. FAU fans love the Sun Belt, and we have the upmost respect for the conference and it's programs.

Well we lost what four members? They couldn't leave the Sunbolt fast enough. They were replaced with lesser schools. That's by definition a decline. We are the developmental league of 1-A.

Outside of what we lost in all sports performance from MTSU, the other three schools don't offer anything that can't be replaced, or even made better by the incoming schools. TV contracts will change based upon who is in the conference as opposed to who was in the conference.

Who is going to replace or improve WKU's bball tradition in the new SBC?

I don't get your analogy but you are kidding yourself if you don't believe that ASU or UL will leave as soon as possible.

Who is going to replace or improve WKU's bball tradition in the new SBC?

WKU had bball tradition years ago. That's like a Clemson fan saying the ACC would miss its tradition because it won the football national championship in 1981.

We were a one-bid league before WKU left, and we will be a one-bid league after WKU left. No change. I think WKU made a mistake leaving, and while CUSA may prove out to be a better basketball league, the SBC will prove out to be a better football league.

Personally I think there is little, if any, seperation in football but CUSA has the upper hand in everything else. The article states "FAU wasn't left behind to play FCS schools" but CUSA has UTSA, Old Dominion and start up Charlotte? I would've definitely left that statement out. 03-idea

I'm pretty sure anyone would leave given the opportunity. However, make no, mistake CUSA 5 years ago is not CUSA today. The same can be said for the Sun Belt.

I would say Sun Belt baseball is better than CUSA. Everyone will always think their new date is better than the old one, but they all have their own issues.
