Just north of Orlando and to the west has a decent population of bears. We are now seeing them on the east side as well. I went to a house conf in Orlando last month and a young adult bear ran across highway 50 just east of Bithlo. Never saw one there before.

Wow, I've driven that stretch of Hwy 50 thousands of times and I've never had the chance to see a bear. Pretty cool. I hope that means the bear population is at least starting to pull back from the brink in Florida.

The largest population of black bear in Florida is the Wekiva national park area. They put in large tunnels that go underneath SR 46, and high chain link fence, to corral these bears through the tunnels instead of crossing the roads. Seems to have saved a good number of bear from being hit by traffic. Good to see the population increase. People just need to be cognizant of how to dispose of trash, which draw these bears in.

Fla has a healthy population of Bears. Most are in Central and N Central part of state. Heaviest population likely is from just north of Orlando to Somewhere around Lake City. Used to be a few out on the Cape. Though I have not heard of any there in a long time. Panther population has also spread some. I saw one of them just before the first toll on 528 on East side of orlando a # of years ago. Have a friend just south of Ocala national forest who has seen one on his property up there as well. 30 years ago they were only in the everglades area.
