Military Bowl strikes deal with C-USA
http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...ources-say

Conference USA has struck a deal to put a team in the Military Bowl, sources said Monday.

The seventh selection from the ACC was contracted to play in the game against an at-large team before C-USA completed the deal to fill the spot.

C-USA and bowl officials will determine which selection from C-USA will play in the bowl, the sources said.

For the first time in the bowl's six-year history, the game will be played at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and not the Washington Redskins' RFK Stadium.

The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, set for Dec. 27 with a 2:30 p.m. ET kickoff, will be the sixth bowl affiliated with C-USA.

And people wonder why teams will jump to CUSA. 6 compared to 2. ANd the third we are looking may add another CUSA team. Plus they get to play a ACC team, while our bowls play MAC and CUSA teams. Get on it Karl. Though if its in Annapolis, I'm not sure many SBC schools would travel strong there.

C-USA won't keep that bowl game after this season. With Navy, ECU, Temple, UCONN, and Cincy in the AAC that's going to be the tie in long term.

Yeah, anyone worrying about what CUSA or the SBC have NOW or the next couple of years in terms of payouts or bowls should just stop. All current situations are based on lineups that will not be remotely the same when it is time to renew any deals.

It's like your wealthy friend having something come up so he lets you spend the last couple of nights in his luxury vacation condo that he already paid for and you walk around like you paid for it.

Count them now vs. 2018, it's going to look a lot different just like their tv contract.

I hope we can secure Southern-based bowl games. SBC team fanbases travel well to bowls, we've all proven that. I think a Florida bowl would be perfect, maybe the one up in Nashville too. 03-thumbsup

Speaking of TV contracts, I see where Benson has secured a one year extension of the SBC's TV contract. I guess congratulations are in order.

Not so convinced congratulations are in order about the one year extension in the SBC's TV contract, but guess makes sense considering four additional schools will come into conference play in 2014. Guess he will renegotiate then.

Speaking of needing a Florida bowl, SBC bowls would benefit from a Florida panhandle area bowl would think. That way a lot of fans of several schools could even drive to the bowl, maybe even hit a little warmer weather. Only problem would be where to play. Only place I could think of, not in the panhandle though, off hand would actually be Jacksonville, if the Jags would permit that with them playing at that time of year.

Gator Bowl is already played there, not sure if they would want a second game.

One year deal the bowl will move to the AAC next year. It would have this year as I understand it but the league only has 10 teams this season and already has 6 bowls.

Pretty sure that Tech fan was being snarky.

One year extension seems to be the right move. We haven't even settled on membership yet so anything more than one year would be harmful to the SBC and there is no way to renegotiate the deal before we settle the membership. There is no point in anyone in the newly arranged conferences getting excited or upset about TV deals for a few years.

Much rather see the SBC sign a one year deal than to get locked into something long term that would hurt us.

CUSA will not have 6 Bowl eligible teams in most years. Therefore, those spots will be filled with teams from other conferences.

If they can't fill 6 spots among their members, then something is more amiss in C-USA than anyone knows.

Unless I missed someone, La. Tech, Rice and MTSU are the only teams in CUSA this year who were bowl eligible last season. The schedules may be easier this year so maybe they can maintain that number or improve on it. I would think USM would be improved but they have a long climb back to 6 wins.
