Everyone should be spending their money building up their football programs and not start another sport nobody but a handful of people care about.

Among males 12-24 the NFL is the only sport they like more than soccer.

If the NCAA would move it parallel baseball season in a few decades schools might be able to keep their big stadiums busy much more of the year.

Soccer schollies
Men - 9.9
Women's - 14

You could add men's soccer and offset it with one women's sport with 10 or more scholarships.
Rowing 20
Equestrian 15
Rugby 12
Field Hockey 12
Swimming/Diving 14
Gymnastics 12
LaCrosse 12

im not sure how many are on scholarship but we have 8 members on our womens bowling team and 14 on our sand volleyball team

soccer is the reason FIU got picked over FAU during the first wave. FIU has been a member of CUSA since 2005. the relationship made a difference. there was a group pushing for FAU because they have a new football stadium and are located in an area that is more ncaa football friendly

Women's Bowling - 5 scholarships

I would imagine some of the same gals that are on the regular VB team are also on the sand one? There are 12 VB scholarships. The NCAA doesn't split them (yet). Kind of like indoor & outdoor T&F.

We are already out of balance. Need to add a women's sport not matter what, so if we add men's soccer, need two women's sports.

Belmont to the A-10 for men's soccer only is theoretically possible.

I'd like to see USA bring back men's soccer. But we do have 50 million or so to raise for a OCS for football (we can't play at Ladd forever).

It really is a shame as Men's Soccer is one of our most successful sports. I think playing even in the Atlantic Sun would be better than Indy.

You and about 300 other people. Soccer is a huge youth sport across the country that starts dying in high school. I have nothing but respect for the players. You have to be top physical shape and have some serious skills for that game. However, in America it will never be a revenue generating college sport. We need to improve football and basketball.

I love hockey and if UL truly had a hockey team (Not the club team) I would go to the games along with about 300 other people.

I agree with everything you said, but it's on the up-and-up. MLS teams are filling their stadiums; they're expanding the league soon, and US Soccer is opening up academies throughout the US to groom some grade-A American talent for the future.

I would wait a few years after all the FCS schools complete transition and see if the programs survive the move to FBS. As schools add more football scholarships, something might have to give and men's soccer might be the victim. This was the case at WKU.

I'd love to see Mens Soccer at UL. I have always had a love for high level soccer and the high school state champs have been from right here in acadiana a lot recently. I understand the title 9 issue that keeps it from happening which is a shame because it's denying athletes from our area from being able to stay in our area.

Title 9 provides more scholorships than it costs. They just dont go to athletes with boy parts

RE: starting mens soccer in the SBC???
Speaking of Title IX, why does it get the blame when men's sports get cut, but no one blames football?

The biggest scholarship limit belongs to D1-A football with 85. The next is D1-AA with 63 and third is DII with 36. So the top three sports with the most extensive scholarship limits is football. Here's a list of 4-10, which are all at the D1 level.
4)Rowing (women's only) 20
5)Men's Hockey 18
5)Women's Hockey 18
5)Women's cross country/track and field 18
8)Women's basketball 15
8)Equestrian (women's only) 15
10)Women's soccer 14
10)Women's swimming and diving 14

There are 19 total D1 men's sports (counting football twice). The total number of scholarships available in the 17 non-football sports is 136.3. That means at the FBS level, if an athletic program were to offer all men's sports the football scholarship would eat up 38% of all available scholarships! The maximum scholarship amount available at the D1 level for women's sports is 230.

After the 36 in football, DII's highest limit is 12.6. If 1-A scaled back the football scholarships by a handful, then there would be many men's sports that would be saved.

I didn't even get to the break down of scholarships versus starters or scholarships versus roster spots, which are also so far out of whack for football and against every other men's sport.
