UH and SMU are teriffic schools and I'm really glad they are in the AAC. They are also not going to panic about bowls, before the bowl situation has even played out... Eastern exposure.
Our President has made it clear numerous times, we are focusing on the east. Our largest donors are there, students with the least amount of financial aid are there. I can see Houston moving on to bigger and better things (they have the student/alumni base we don't have), but at least our President is giving our basketball program all the tools necessary to make us a national brand in the future.

RE: Question for Houston, SMU, and Tulsa fans.
I liked CUSA better than the WAC and MWC but when the insanity was going full swing I didn't like how CUSA was going to end up and the BE/AAC was my first choice but I certainly would not have been heartbroken to have been invited to the MWC.
On bowls, I'm not too concerned about them at this point.
AAC will have some quality programs in 2014 with:
UConn (26 wins in 4 years, 1-1 in bowls),
ECU (29 wins in 4 years, 0-3 in bowls),
Navy (30 wins in 4 years, 2-1 in bowls),
Temple (30 wins in 4 years, 1-2 in bowls),
SMU (30 wins in 4 years, 3-1 in bowls),
Houston (33 wins in 4 years, 1-2 in bowls),
Tulsa (34 wins in 4 years, 2-1 in bowls),
UCF (34 wins in 4 years, 2-1 in bowls), and
Cincy (36 wins in 4 years, 2-1 in bowls)
which, when combined with the all important markets, should provide ample incentive to attract interest from enough bowls to give the conference 5-7 bowls each year.

Nice post.
My thoughts: Well, I hate how the old Big East effectively dissolved into two conferences: The AAC (aka old Big East for all intents and purposes) and the new Big East (aka the Catholic Seven). Still, I'm glad we're not in Conference USA as of July 1 this year. (Sorry to the three AAC schools who will be in that league until July 1, 2014. I'm still rooting for you guys to do well.) I feel bad for schools like Rice (even though, you know, Ruck Fice and all), Southern Miss, and UAB. They would love to get into this conference. Hell, EagleX even came in here and apologized to us for his negative treatment towards this league. CUSA 3.0, as much as I hate to say it, is a dumpster fire. While I like UTSA and its potential, their football program has a long way to go. I've always thought they would've been better off getting Texas State instead. If nothing else, they could say Texas State has the potential to be the next UConn in football. Don't get me wrong. I wish the league the very best, but they have a really long way to go before they're a really good Go5 league again.

Im more intrigued by the possibility than my schools administration is. I need to see how the bowls shake out--but the from the early returns, it appears that the Mountain West could feasibly end up with a much better and more attractive bowl line up than the AAC. Hopefully we will start hearing some good news soon. The only whispers Ive heard is that the New Orleans Bowl is pretty much certain to become an AAC bowl. I guess we will see. The biggest advantage I see for the AAC right now is a media contract offering a power conference level of exposure. Frankly, Id be fine in either conference. I see some fun matchups in both.
The feeling I get is that the AAC comes out with an arrangement that is roughly similar to CUSA's bowl lineup this time, but that if the conference's lineup remains stable they will surpass CUSA and probably the MWC as well in ~4 years.
It is not a huge problem and it won't last for years and years.

I think the bowls are going with a 6 year cycle this time--so its not forever--but each conference will be stuck with thier line-up for more than half a decade.

Before Tulsa made a commitment to a new conference I was rooting for the MWC but that was primarily because I live in Reno and that would have let me see the bball team live every year. Now I wouldn't want to see any change unless the conference totally fell apart like CUSA did.
