I'd be surprised if they had a CUSA bid. It seems to me that the admin there has decided that they really don't want to move up and will use the excuse of 'we had to wait on a study' to use an excuse when their alumni complain about the home schedule of Elon, Bill and Mary, Towson, Duquesne and Rhode Island. The Belt will simply stand at 11 for 2014, and look for appropriate fits with interest for 2015. JMU is certainly welcome to apply again next year, but there will likely be several schools applying (Missouri State, Lamar, Jacksonville State, NDSU, Montana, Montana State) and it might not be such an easy situation. You can do a lot with two years of prep time. UTA could raise its hand in that time period and say "we didn't join two football focused conferences in a row to not play football".
With the CAA really needing JMU and the MAC being possibly willing to take a football only member, I think it has to be considered that JMU could join the MAC as a football only keeping its other sports in the CAA.
MAC will take Delaware over JMU in a New York minute. Makes a lot more sense to take a flagship school in a high population area and would be a close rival for UMASS.
JMU's fans are thick in the head if they think CUSA is going to happen for a while. It will only happen if CUSA gets raided, and if they do, there will be other schools in the mix that they will look at as well. Being the 15 or 16 school was never in the cards... even if CUSA decided to go to 16 which they have walked away from at this point.
JMU has never been in the conversation anymore that AppState was... meaning they are/were in the conversation, but not in final contention. Their best bet is to join the SBC and get themselves to FBS to position themselves for the future. But they might just fritter away that chance by being too cute by half. In the end, SBC would be glad to have them, but we definitely have 2-3 other schools that actually want to join and we will be fine without them. Whatever happens is on them, because we are moving onward and upward no matter what.

My guess is that JMU is reluctant to give up the NCAA monies that comes from the CAA basketball success in previous years. And thus, would like to wait if possible for any FBS move up. I do think it is an understandable position.

@SLC_Commish: Great catching up with friend and colleague Karl Benson of the Sun Belt Conference this afternoon. Time well spent, very informative!
I wonder what they talked about.
A merger.
Only if Tech is part of it!

RE: June 1st is looming large on the horizon!
So...I was doing some important mod research into why Z got banned 8 years ago (Because we all forgot) and during my important research, I discovered this thread.
This thread began in May of 2013, A couple weeks before MTSU/FIU/FAU/UNT left for CUSA, a couple weeks after we added App and Southern officially, and right as the league was deep in discussions of adding a potential 12th member. Its an interesting read when you have time.
