Not sure if you're the owner of arkst.com, but I'm sure it's not easy giving up your baby and migrating elsewhere. FWIW, I'd only visit The Den when I was interested in checking out stAte talk. Best of luck.

I am not but he does post on here. The move is going to be good though because of the increased content because of the subscription base. The Den has been a long time even though iv only be a member under a couple different accounts for 3 years.

Im really excited because i have been given the opportunity to produce some video content for the site and i could not be more excited about it. I do however hate that the den is going away. its probably one of if not the most active stand along board for mid major schools.

Don't let Mohajir hear you saying that BS.

You have another way in mind to describe every school not in a big five conference?

D1 for basketball
FBS for football

why do fans try to make they school look like it's beneath another school?

In basketball we all have the same shot at a NCAA Championship when the season starts.

Now a lot of teams are more talented than others but we all play D1 with the same basketballs, the same size floors, same size goals, same size rims.

The term Mid Major was started in the late 70s by the people selling recruiting information. Before that all schools playing D1 were considered as "D1 schools. When espn took hold and cable became mainstream and in just about everyones home espn talking heads picked up on the mid major term.

Why should being a member of the SEC or ACC or any other conference make your school better or above say...a WKU in basketball? It doesn't but espn has brainwashed recruits and fans into believing it does.

Football is a little different because we all don't have a shot at the championship. But as a fan I would never try to make my school seem less than any other school.

espn babies just don't get that!

That's the niche that the Den has had. Include some free for all sections and let the kids go at each other. If they don't like it, post somewhere else.

Its part of what keeps that place active.

If you can't handle a troll, you can't handle being an Arkansas State fan.

I have seen pro boards that are tame compared to ours. We have no profanity rules, though idiot is translated to scholar for us.

I don't mine paying I donate more each money to Hilltopper Haven than a subscription would cost on Scout. I just don't like the exclusion part and to the outsider it looks like you have a dead or dying board. Especially with ArkSt and the actively you all get on your board right now. Hilltopper Haven use to be that way before the problems.

But damn you have some unfriendly people on that board :)

We had three boards on Arkst.com that newcomers couldn't see.

The thing about Scout is that it costs money to publish articles, cell minutes to talk to everyone you need to talk to, press credentials, and travel expenses. So you really can't give non-paying members access to the subscriber forum because you need the paying members to cover these expenses. If you come out ahead you try to hire a reporter to broaden the coverage or donate to your athletic department. We thought recruiting services catered to the BCS conferences and didn't do much for the rest of us, so now we have it but we have to pay for it. Some people don't feel they should have to pay for access but the publisher can't cover $89 a pop every year if you have 300 people who want in.

On the free access boards, ripping players, coaches, and recruits on a national forum can sabotage your school's efforts to field great teams. Players and coaches read these boards and might be turned off if they read something derogatory about the current players and coaching staff. You establish a presence at Scout so they will. It's hard to attract non-paying fans here to read vanilla stuff, though.

We had closed a Delphi forum that had existed 9 years and planned to transition everyone to Scout but quickly lost everyone but paying members. There is a standalone independent site (Ragin' Pagin) that has been in existence for over 10 years that is home to many Cajun fans.

RE: The death of an internet sensation. The Den moves to take over AstAte Nation
Harry from GoMeanGreen.com recently sent me an article putting in perspective the amount of traffic an ad supported site needs to really make money. The point where you are really making money is 100,000 unique viewers per month.

Last year The Den lost $96. It cost me $8 a month for the site to exist.

I was lucky in that a quality photographer cost me nothing. Of six road games, I was unable to travel to any of them. I was unable to travel to the press conference announcing Harsin because of work. A quality stringer will cost $30 to $50 per article. Want a full-time person? You might find someone willing to work for $21,000 a year before taxes and there will be no benefits except maybe paid leave.

Do fans really want or need the game articles? To me that's just duplicating a service most fans will get from a newspaper beat writer or the school site. The same goes for hiring a coach. Most people will see the press conference on line.

My personal opinion is most fans only want the message board to talk about what's going on in the program and game play and the inside stuff that fans post on it. Most could careless about article and things like that.

Now I know if the owner of the board wants a press pass he/she must also make it a "news site" or they won't get the credentials. But that's a perk for writing the article..not for the members of the board.

I don't have any problem with someone turning what started out as a labor of love into a money maker. If you put the time in and give a service then you should get a return on it.

If it's valued by the members then donations should be enough to support the board and put some money in the pocket of the owner. This will help cover the articles and things like that.

As active as the Ark St board was if 25% of the members gave $5 a month it more than pays for the board and enough articles to keep it as a "news/sports site".

The 10 things fans want based on 15 or so years of running a site.

1. They want analysis of the game. What went right and wrong.
2. They want to know the players and coaches.
3. They want photographs.
4. They want to know about the direction of the program
5. Recruiting news.
6. Recruiting news.
7. Recruiting news.
8. Evaluation of the recruiting
9. A place to talk
10. A place to talk.

Oh to quote Mark Twain regarding The Den, reports of its death have been greatly exaggerated.

Four times more people were on the site today compared to the first weekend of May last year.

I am glad that y'all are moving to the Scout site. It will make it so much easier to navigate everyones forums if Scout was the primary board for all teams in the Sun Belt.

I know for ours, RaginPagin.com has more activity for the Cajuns, but the Scout board has 1000% better content in the premium folders.

I will miss not having two sites covering ASU. A few jerks tried to dominate The Den but some of the most knowledgeable fans, who almost always were the first to break the news on anything concerning ASU, would not let them drown them out.

As far as visiting and reading it was far and away the best site. Hope the new Den combines the best of AStateNation and the old Den. If is does ASU and its fans will be better for it.
