RE: What is the story here....USA APR Questions?

It happens at Western, USA, ULL, UGA, uk...all schools.
Now let me say, I don't have a clue if the kid, or team, was in the right in this case and it does not matter. The only time I think a school shouldn't release a player is when the player isn't holding up his part. Not on the field but in the classroom. The ARP can set a program back for 2 to 3 years. So in that case I can see not releasing a player if releasing him will hurt the program.
But if USA doesn't release him it kind of hurts the players argument..USA needed the scholarship. If not released then he is still using that scholarship.
Western went through this last year with a basketball recruit. We would not release him until his grades came up to met APR minimal standards. In that case the player received a high enough GPA to get his release.
But a school shouldn't be able to just use this excuse when in danger (like WKU was) it needed to be a standard set before player transfers put a program in danger. Other words don't let one or two players transfer with low grades just because you need the scholarship. Player and school needs to live up to the "student" part...teaching and learning
I don't know the exact numbers, but I don't think USA is pressed for scholarships. We don't have to make room for anyone; we have several slots open. I see your argument, but it doesn't apply in this case. I don't know if any other USA poster has the exact numbers for you. Demetre Baker got a second chance at USA once dismissed from Georgia and after numerous suspensions and a bad attitude at USA the players went to the coaches wanting to kick him off the team.
