Blast from the past
Anyone remember Brandon Reed?

Signed with ASU basketball a few years back, and went on to become SBC Freshman of the year. Averaging something like 15 points a game, and teamed with Trey Finn to produce one of the better guard tandems that ASU has had on the same team since the Nutt error. Helped ASU challenge for a league title out of nowhere, and famously dueled Stefan Pettigrew of WKU in a wild game in Jonesboro in front of 8,000 or so fans. Still one of the better games I have ever seen in person.

Unfortunately, poor Brandon was rather bored with Jonesboro, and made several posts on Twitter about how dull the town was. End of the season comes and he stuns everyone by announcing he was transferring to be close to an Ill Grandmother in Atlanta. However, he then announced his final three schools were Baylor, Nebraska, and Georgia Tech, which prompted John Brady to come out and claim Brandon never told the staff he was planning on leaving, and that he got stars in his eyes because major schools suddenly became interested in him.

ASU fans were upset with the visits to Baylor and Nebraska and called the Grandmother story a lie on our message board. That drew members of Reed's family to our site, and caused several long threads in which they bashed our school, its fans, the SBC, and everything they could that involved ASU. Reed, got upset with Brady, and began personally telling players not to sign with ASU, and cost us at least one recruit that we know of because of his antics.

Well, Brandon Reed was spotted in Jonesboro this week having Lunch with Brady and Members of the Coaching Staff. In Two years at GT, he has averaged about 4 minutes per game for a terrible team, never coming close to what he was at ASU. He has one year left, and is about to graduate, and has apparently asked Brady if he can come back.

Our fans cannot decide if we should allow him back, or make him lie in the bed he made. His tale is cautionary for most mid major schools because he left directly because he heard from major schools after 1 good year at the school. I am curious to see what others think of this. (He'd be eligible for next season only)

If all of what you say is true, then I'd never want him associated with the program again.

Could never justify taking him back if that is the case. Totally ridiculous.

brady would eat the peanuts outta his poop for this to happen.

even at asu (who put up with dick nutt's mediocre-ness wayyyy too long) brady has to be feeling a tiny amount of heat.

if this kid graduates from ga. tech then brady will quote scripture of the prodigal son returning with his arm draped over reed's shoulder at a press conference at the luby's cafeteria.

and if i'm a red woof fan i would welcome him back.....if i thought he'd help win games. kid mighta grown up in the last few years. if he's already met with brady that took a bit of humility for that to even happen.

ASU has a long history of giving second chances. It's sort of a tradition and it has worked out well before.

I would be interested in hearing what he has to say. Hopefully he will have something to say.

As an educator myself, I say no. Of course the kid may have learned his lesson. That's great and all, but you have to teach kids that there are consequences for your actions. Good decisions result in good consequences and bad decisions result in bad consequences. And once you've made a decision, you have to live with the consequences whether good or bad.

Absolutely NOT! Sometimes a player and school combination does not work out. That's normal and it happens pretty often. But for the player and his family to trash your school, town, league, fans, coach, and negative recruit against you then you'd be crazy to take him back. I love winning as much as the next guy, but I'd be mad if USA took a player back under these circumstances.

changing my opinion.

patrick sparks left us to join uk and is one of the most reviled toppers in hilltopper lore.

and as far as i know he didn't run us down.

but i still think brady brings him back. if he can.

This is the X factor here. Its clear our administration is still going to ignore Women's Basketball, and since we have just spent good money on football and baseball, basketball has to be on the horizon. How long of a rope does Brady have available. Attendance is down, and there is general disinterest right now, but a good season would win those fans back, since many just chose to pay attention to football more.

Reed comes back because Brady thinks he can help the team win. Period.

Brady isn't on any hot seat. The program is clearly improving from the APR disaster that Nutt left it in. Should things have advanced faster under Brady - hell yes. Reed leaving is part of why that didn't happen. I'm not so sure Brady didn't have to recruit guys for their grades for a class or two - based on the extreme difference in talent we're getting now compared to his first few seasons.

Threw this together real quickly to double check my contention that Brady is improving the program. It is slow, but it is there. I think we'll see it next year as well.
