In the grand scheme, neither of us wield enough marketing power to change the perception away from "Battle of the GSUs". The casual fans and media will keep pushing it and call it such.

Yeah, it's called 'context' supporting my sentiment.

Your argument was lost in your context and name calling. I am guessing your argument is that your ok with the continuation of the battle for an acronym and the naming of a trophy for an acronym.

If my argument was lost it was due in no part to what I said, but your inability to read it appropriately. If you want me to dumb-it-down for you I will.

My argument had NOTHING to do with the acronym or any trophy. I had to do with the sentiment that people with poor reading comprehension, such as yourself, bash journalists when you don't agree with their opinions in op/ed pieces, and often you treat those op/ed pieces as if they are news articles. Yet without these people that your so easily rake over the coals, you wouldn't have anything to talk about.

You are truly precious. And the idea that you took exception to my critique based on the idea that I actually had the nerve to critique your friend speaks for itself. Just one of the most amazing series of posts I have ever seen.

I would say the ULs did chose it by continuing the name fight (Anyone who has read this board the past 5 years can attest to that). I dont think the F_Us did as they dont have the same acronym and merely tied together by geography. I think we just need to make sure that we fight it from both sides. Let this become a rivalry ala UCF/USF and not let the media and casual fans (i.e. really fans of Georgia Tech and Georgia) define it for us.

Again, missing the point. The beat writer HAPPENS to be my friend. That is ancillary (...pause for you to get your Funk & Wagnalls...) to the point that you criticize journalists and their work to make yourself look intelligent somehow. (Colossal FAIL btw.)

And even if I was SOLELY motivated to post on this topic because I know the beat writer, this post of yours tells me something about You. You must be a sh*tty "friend" to a lot of people then.

I think Texas State has done a wonderful job of communicating that they are Texas State and sometime abbreviated TX State but NEVER TSU. So I think sometimes the institutions themselves just have to draw a line in the sand and contact media and say "You screwed up" when they do the same way a corporation would defend their naming and branding.

Yeah, ESPN has called us Georgia State quite a few times already. They have also called us the Georgia Southern Golden Eagles, on more than one occasion. Hopefully with a move up to the Sun Belt they will check their cards a bit more carefully. It will be up to both administrations to make sure their voices are heard when things like that happen.

I think it came more from all your camp's chest beating before you actually had to start playing games. Much like what UNCC fans are up to these days.

People can talk about potential until they're blue in the face but when reality runs it's course, it's a tough pill to swallow.

Do not believe that we have ever really jumped on being ASU. It will always be our initials, but there are so many anyway that it really doesn't definitively designate as to actually beyond any doubt as to who we are. Just not descriptive enough.

The two schools could not be more diametrically apposed from an image standpoint. I'm all for Ga. Southern or GS. I wouldn't mind a change to University of Georgia Southern. If the acronym debate creates more intensity between the two then we should keep it the way it is.

Actually it came from our claims in 2009 that we wouldnt be FCS long which we were not. The AGS crowd took extreme offense to that. Regardless, both universities need to make sure that their identity does not get lost in this silly fight.

We can't really fight for the GS, it's really more for the U. We should play for the U. Maybe a golden ewe. That kinda stuff is what its about anyway, not some made up media jarggle. Make a big deal out of it then roll out a little bronze lamb at the first game. No more odd than a bucket, ax, or boot.

Well if there's one thing we could agree on, it's the wild frenzy that all the AGS rubes get in to when a program moves for greener FBS pastures. There is some really delusional groupthink over there.
