Eastern Michigan is only 7 or 8 miles from Michigan.

They are pretty close, however those 8 miles are dog miles -- nothing but wheat fields. The schools are in separate towns (and states). This kind of thing happens all the time -- just usually between non-athletes (fraternities, groups, etc), and usually it is nothing more than fistacuffs.

I hope the kid is alright - one of the WSU coaches, the assistant head coach/ST coach - Eric Russell, is an Idaho alumni (who worked with Idaho's Coach Petrino when he was a GA). I don't see any systemic hatred.

Kent State and Akron are essentially that close. It takes about 15 minutes to get between the two mostly due to traffic, lights, etc.

Eastern Michigan is less than 8 miles away from U of Michigan. Practically 8 blocks. That is why EMU struggles so much with attendance.
