Decision on Tulsa "on Aresco's desk"
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...a-new-name

Quote:“The decision is on [commissioner] Mike [Aresco]'s desk,” the source said.

And some discussion of the new name:

Quote:As for the new name – which is necessary because the Catholic 7 took the “Big East” handle in the divorce -- the league recently presented membership officials with several possibilities to consider.

“The America, the Metro, Collegiate, the United – it covered everything,” said a source with knowledge of those discussions.

The source wasn't sure whether “Collegiate” or “United” Conferences were realistic names but said the above quote spoke to the wide-ranging nature of the brainstorming sessions among members. "America" and "Metro" have been reported as potential names.

The Collegiate? Boy, that's just awful.

Is Tulsa going to be an all sports member or football only?

Every name that gets mentioned makes the Metro sound better and better.

Metro. Makes sense. You got Temple, UConn, Orlando, Tampa, Memphis, Houston, a snippet of DFW area, Tulane. Just name it and move on with your lives.

It does, a lot of it pretty good history, and since this league just gave away all it's history it needs some.

Wish they had asked if ECU's all-sports membership was also on Aresco's desk. 03-phew

I'm pretty sure that's a done deal. There's almost nobody in the media who doubts this will happen.

The takes innovation and insight to come up with a name that is not ridiculous. Apparently, they still don't have much of either...05-stirthepot I just hope it doesn't have the word 'EAST" involved...

Not a fan of the Metro name, but I have to agree with your comment. All the names mentioned are even worse.

Aresco needs to move these off his desk and fast. There is no reason to be sitting around on this. Issue ECU and Tulsa full invites now.

The name is the priority. Giving ECU the all-sports invite should take 8 seconds. I dont know what the issue there is. There is zero reason to rush the 12th team at this point. There was a reason when we had a western wing, but unless Navy is coming prior to 2015, there no real pressing reason to rush that decision. None the less, it appears that is the next move to be made, though I have no idea why.

For sake of argument (and a healthy reminder of how many times things have not been what they seemed in this whole mess) how do you know what's on Aresco's desk? Not having any contacts at Tulsa I can't speak to it directly, but if it was simply a matter of "Welcome! Sign here." and that's what Tulsa has executed and returned then there is no reason it should have taken this long. We are talking about a guy who has established a fairly concrete and unshakeable track record of promising what he couldn't or, in any case, didn't deliver...even if some if those promises originated with his predecessor. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a long list of, "Fine. But if X doesn't happen, then Tulsa can do Y..." addendums.
