I'm sure that had nothing to do with joining a conference with two other ASUs. :)

App State has a good ring to it anyway. There are a TON of ASUs. Gotta separate yourself!

Guess it serves as a clear example of how easy these things start up for our new members.

Well, some Cajun fans (mostly on ESPN) have that point of view seriously. Hard for me to tell the difference at times because of that.

My mistake.

I love the term Appy instead of App State. I always use it instead of typing out App St and I use it in conversation as it's just a lot of fun to say. I would never mean anything negative about it. But if y'all would like it to be App St, I'll be more than happy to oblige.

But my question would be what about scoreboards and such? Normally they only have space for 3 or 4 letters (saw that the NCAA was calling Middle Tennessee MTU. They also called Liberty Lib).

This isn't intended to start bashing the plan, but I always wondered about that. I think that's why Texas State went with TxSt (4 letters means it'll fit just about anywhere).

RE: Some "Name" advice for the new members...
I will give different advice than most. When addressing a fan of any school, use that school's preferred branding. If someone from a different school wants to complain about it, tell them to go perform unnatural acts upon themselves, as it is none of their damn business. Refrain from using derogatory terms or known triggers. So far as I know, the preferred branding of every school currently in the conference [less the two newest] is as follows:

StAte
USA
Troy
GSU
WKU
ULM
UL
TxSt

If you can't do that, a reference to the team name is always acceptable.

One thing to remember if some guy comes on here and uses a name the fans of the school does not like he is probably trying to get under your skin. Ignore it and use the name you like when referring to yourself. Eventually most people will get it. Some never will and folks like that can be ignored with a little work. Some of us did that with stAte here. I think this is the first board where that name is used quite a bit. It has caught on fairly well here.

I still refer to stAte as ASU from time to time; but I really like the newer reference.

Calm down panama, such language. Take a nitro pill. You know, and I know, and we all know we will have posters that will be ornery. But hope we can set a precedent and pretty much get along and build the Sun Belt to make it something we can all be proud to be a member of for a long time. Don't worry, be happy.

I've never called "App" ASU. Always App St or App or Appy.

What if no one used GSU? I know it's a hotly contested debate, but how about if we need a 3 letter acronym for Georgia State, we use GSt, and Georgia Southern would be GSo.

You're all welcome. Yes I know I'm a genius. Please, I only accept gifts in the form of money or more money.

We are not ULL, that is not what we've chosen to brand our athletics. Louisiana-Monroe has chosen ULM, we have not chosen ULL. Its that simple. Its like fans calling WKU=Western. That is not what WKU has branded its athletics. Thanks

I used to not like "Appy" but then my mother's cousin who played at Lenior-Rhyne against App in the 50s in the old NAIA days told me everyone back then called them the "Happy Appys", so I ignore it now.

Also, a lot of App folks get upset about people (usually Yankees) saying "App-A-LAY-shun" instead of the proper "App-a-LATCH-an" but that doesn't bother me either. It just an accent difference.
