How could anyone pull for Dook?

Mine is Louisville.

Mine are Miami, MT, and Pitt.

Surprise, the "powerhouse" teams have a big following. I imagine the newer powerhouses will too

Would like those 25,000 fans to list their top 5 favorites.

The ESPN Sports Poll is a scientific survey that gathers info from more than 25,000 fans each year. It's weighted and modeled to reflect the interests and demographics of the entire U.S. population.

In this case, respondents are asked if they're a college hoops fans, what "level" fan are they (avid, moderate, etc), and what is their favorite team. That top 10 only make up about 30% of responses, there's a large, long tail, not surprisingly.

Duke simply has an enormous fanbase spread nation wide. It's why they consistently draw among the biggest TV audiences every year. This has nothing to do with attendance, alumni base, etc explicitly -- it's about expressed affinity for a program. It's basically a very precise measure of a program's "brand".

If your favorite team isn't playing, who do you change the channel to watch? If Duke isn't playing, who do "Duke fans" watch?

I would like to see a survey where they ask for respondents to list their favorite, second and third favorite CBB and CFB teams.

any other ACC team (that is the 12 current teams)

My next door neighbor who was born and rasied in Pittsburgh and went to school at Clarion University (Northern PA) is a huge Duke fan...

I love the style of play of any team that beats Georgetown, especially when they do it by 10 or more.

People all over the country pull for Duke because the win lots and lots of basketball games. When K retires and one of his assistants takes over there will be a gradual decline, until they are a good but not great team. Within ten years from his retirement the national popularity of the Blue Devils will be down considerably. Unless of course I'm wrong and they don't miss a beat when he goes.

I haven't heard that the check bounced, so yes, they were the best at fishing and earned a significant payday.
