Pretty sure it will be taken care of before the Texas vs Texas Tech football game on Nov 28.

a lot of time in things like this, if it's not done at launch, it doesn't get done for quite a while.

If this is true, sounds like Time Warner might be the only holdout. With the CBS debacle and now this, it would be bad publicity for Time Warner.

Great news. I don't think folks can really underestimate how important it is to have a channel on at launch.

Oh really? You've sat in on these negotiations before?

RE: Fox Sports Press Release
Just saw something pretty interesting- for Direct TV, they will have FS1 on channel 219. Speed was on 607. 219 is right in the middle of all the sports channels(I know NBC SN is on 220 for instance, ESPN on 206). I think this is a plus quite frankly to not be on the 600's.

RE: Fox Sports Press Release
Another little Big East nugget from this article:

Ford will continue to be the exclusive automotive sponsor of the "Ford Fox NFL Sunday" and "Ford Fox College Football" pregame shows. But it's also agreed to title sponsor the pregame show for FS1's Big East college basketball coverage coming fall, according to Mr. Evans.

Sweet! A Big East pregame show, I wonder who the analysts will be....

From the article, a sensible paragraph and strategy:
"Rather than having these carriage fights with multiple distributors at launch, Fox execs, led by Fox Networks Distribution President Mike Hopkins, decided to establish the channel on cable and satellite systems first. Then, as Speed’s affiliate deals expire, Fox will try to negotiate increases. While those negotiations will occur in an environment where distributors have become more emboldened in their disputes with sports networks, Fox is banking that systems find that it is more disruptive to drop existing channels that have a built-in audience."

RE: Fox Sports Press Release
problem that I see for Fox(not us really) is they have to have certain number of subscribers to carry certain programming. The cable/sat companies know this so they kind of have Fox over a barrel there.

FS1 has secured "hundreds of millions" already in advertising, including with Ford, Chrysler, GM, Toyota, Microsoft, Pepsi, Verizon, Taco Bell, Samsung, etc. This was from a recent article, but I'm on my droid and don't know how to link. So at this point, I don't expect any Shamwow ads on FS1.

RE: Fox Sports Press Release
Fox has operated for a long time on the basis of accepting short-term losses to build properties into future profit centers. They lost money on their first NFL contract, but it set the Fox network on a level with CBS, ABC, NBC, which UPN/WB/CW were never able to do.

RE: Fox Sports Press Release
FS1's problem though is the lack of sports properties. No NFL, no NBA, no NHL, only 1 MLB game a week, and only some College Football is a killer. Like I said on the main board, FS1 for them to be really viable must do 2 things. 1- get the NBA, and 2- get the Big Ten. What's bad for us is if those 2 things happen, we become not necessarily an afterthought, but more of a 2nd banana again.

I'm sorry but this negative nancy routine is growing tiresome.

NASCAR, UFC, Pac-12 FB and BBall, Big XII FB and BBall, Big East BBall, Boxing, MLB, USGA US Open.

How are they NOT viable? The fact that they have a great relationship with the B1G means they will have some good quality games if not the whole package. NBA is a different beast and who knows, but we do know that Fox is not squeamish about opening up their wallets for big time properties.

Oh and if you still think it's not "viable", they will be advertising our games during the NFL playoffs INCLUDING THE SUPERBOWL!!!

RE: Fox Sports Press Release
I don't care what you think of me....

I'm sorry, but Nascar isn't what it used to be. UFC is a fringe sport.

Pac 12 and Big 12 football- it's nothing compared to what ESPN has with Big Ten and SEC- and Big 12/Pac 12 to boot. FS1 has to get the rights to the Big Ten. Also- especially with the NBA- the league has to take it to open bidding, and not redoing the deal prior to the end of the contract.

Pac 12 and Big 12 basketball- what level games are they going to be getting? ESPN keeps what they've had- and that's a lot of the top games, and every other year the Pac 12 tourney and every year the Big 12 tourney.

Boxing? moving on.

MLB- 1 game a week does not a network make.

USGA- great for 2-3 weeks.

FS1 has to get some more properties. The properties they can get would push us down the totem pole.

As far as the NFL playoffs them advertising our games- by that point- the season is 2/3 over. Also, the Olympics take place the following weekend- that's going to take a major bite out of everything.

I'm sorry- but FS1 right now is a distant 2nd to ESPN. If FS1 doesn't get more properties(which as you allude to they aren't squeamish to opening up their pockets for rights)- they just don't have the meat right now. And the properties that FS1 can get would push us down their totem pole. I mean, if they get the NBA, that's going to take a lot of their winter air time.

So if they don't get other properties, it's bad for us.
And if they do get other properties, it's bad for us.
Ok, got it.
Also, when was the Big East ever "2nd banana"...?

if they don't get the other properties- it's bad for the network which in turn is bad for us.
if they do get the other properties- it's bad for us.

maybe 2nd banana was a bad wording- but just 1 of many properties ESPN had. If FS1 gets Big Ten for instance, a good amount of our games would move from FS1 to FS2.
