UConn has been invited to be an AAU school. So ACC question
With UConn becoming an AAU schhool, does this effect how the ACC will look at them for membership as #16? The Big may add them now.

I thought it was still up in the air. But it wouldn't change anything for me. I'm not a fan of UCONN to the ACC.

Count me as one who would be very surprised if Uconn gets invited to the Big10. The Big 10 has a lot bigger fish to fry than Uconn. They are a state school, but they are in a small state that is not crazy for fb and just a little better for bb. They also have zero national interest for fb. I think Cinci has a better chance than Uconn, and I would not want to hold my breath on Cinci.

O$U would never allow the Bearcats into the BIG. If anything I could see UCONN to the FatTEN as it helps lock up the NY market. I could see a UCONN / Kansas package. It also provide much needed winter content for the BIG network.
Mind you I'm not predicting this just, it wouldn't surprise me.

Unless FSU and Clemson leave first you won't ever see UConn in the ACC.

The only thing I saw about it was a message board post saying they might get it in the next year.
Others are saying their numbers aren't close to what Boston's were when they joined.

I just went to http://www.aau.edu and there is no mention of UConn. In fact the most recent addition is Boston University on 11/05/2012.
Still would not want them even if it was true.

I've never felt any hatred towards UConn, but in a vote for 16 , My choice would be Cincinnati.

RE: UConn now an AAU school. So ACC question
Being AAU or not is irrelevant to ACC membership (though it seems to matter to the Big Ten). If/when UConn joins the AAU, I think there is a good chance the Big Ten takes them - then immediately negotiates with MSG for its basketball tournament. The problem for the B1G would be who to pair with UConn, IMO. They'd love to get Texas or Oklahoma, I think, and they might even consider Kansas. I doubt they'd want both UConn and BC, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were interested in one of those two (with the ACC having the other). Just guessing, though.

I hope not. I don't see the ACC ever inviting UConn.
I would like to see UConn in the B1G.

RE: UConn now an AAU school. So ACC question
To clarify.
1) A Tulane fan and UConn fans were talking about UConn getting the AAU status on old Big East football board. So that was the source. Also, they seemed thing the Big would want Kansas and UConn. Here is the Link.
2) I would much rather in Cincinnate as 16.
Thanks for all the good comments.

Of the remaining Aresco League schools if the ACC goes to 16 my choice is Cincinnati for selfish reasons...

Nebraska wasn't aau.
Actually, Nebraska was AAU at the time of their B1G invitation, but lost AAU status between their invitation and their first game in the B1G. It should be noted that not all B1G schools voted in favor of their keeping AAU status, so apparently it is a myth that AAU status is required for B1G membership.

Lets clarify Nebraska was aau when they accept the big ten, after they were signed and sealed they left due to the schools desire to not maintain aau level of either broad research, faculty excellence or student standards / diversity.
Big 10 does not have a rule to kick out a member if they leave aau but bet they are not pariticipatimg In the big 10 research consortium . Includes all members including ex member UNiveristy of Chicago.

Actually it was the AAU that changed requirements. Nebraska & Syracuse were doing research in areas other than engineering & medical sciences.

RE: UConn now an AAU school. So ACC question
Every single B10 school knew Nebraska was getting kicked out. That didn't happen over night.
You have to understand why the AAU exists. It is primarily for inter-institutional policy and data comparisons for like minded institutions. UNL got most of its research funding from agricultural earmarks, not from peer-reviewed research allocations. Syracuse had long ago fallen behind in research quantity, and that came when they sold their med school to SUNY in 1950. SU voluntarily left because they saw the embarrassment of what UNL went through. Neither school has a realistic shot of getting invited back any time in the near future because nothing fundamental has changed about those schools. They are still outliers.
The AAU wants like universities with similar profiles that face similar pressures and problems. It makes no sense to keep on schools that just creates outliers for their data. They also want to keep it relatively small, around 60 institutions. They won't be just adding schools.
UConn is not getting in any time soon. What UConn people who just read press releases coming from their administration don't realize is that every single research school not in the AAU has designs on being in it. The AAU is not just going to expand to add members, UConn has to pass current members and other schools in line that are ahead of it...like LSU, UAB, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Utah, NCSU, Arizona State, Yeshiva... UConn is not distinguished from this list and is significantly behind them (and many others) in R&D expenditures.

The massive budget cuts to by Governor Bobby Jindal to LSU in the last four years are now threatening to drop LSU from Tier One to Tier Two status.
The future is looking very bleak for LSU academically in the next few years.
Right now, Bobby Jindal's budget is one billion dollars in the red after four straight years of massive budget cuts, raiding state agencies for one time money and selling state assets for one time money to plug that year's budget deficit.
It will be $1.4 billion in the red this year if his plan to eliminate state income tax and replace it with higher state sales taxes is successful.
Bobby Jindal has cut $625 million dollars from higher education in four years.
I don't want to get political but am very familiar with the state education funding issues here.
How this affects AAU status, I do not know. But, LSU is losing professors and programs rapidly.
IF UConn is looking to go AAU, there may be an opening when LSU drops down in status in the near future.
