I know that the ACC is a much tougher conference than the old Big East in most sports, but those who say that ND's sports other than football "bring nothing" to the ACC are just incorrect.

I don't think ND brings much tv revenue to the table without football and I'm pretty sure that THAT'S what has been said, not that ND's olympic sports are garbage.

ND has only played Vanderbilt twice, in 1995 and 1996.

http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/...eamid=3363

The away game was on 9/5/96/. I had to look it up. That day was a Thursday.

That has to be the only Thursday game that ND football has ever played in its 125 year history.

You have one hell of a memory.01-ncaabbs

Notre Dame is 33-11-6 when playing on Thursday.

Where did you find this information? I don't doubt its accuracy, just curious where such a thing can be found.

I am 55 and do not recall a single Thursday ND football game in my lifetime.

Of course, my memory ain't what is used to be, either.

Then where were you on 9/5/96 Terry?

I don't remember.....

It includes bowls, pre-season games and games back in the day when Saturday's weren't customary.

It includes 2-3 in bowls and 41 games prior to 1926. They seemed to play an annual Thanksgiving game for year, including one in 1973.

Notre Dame on Thursday

I figured most of those games were a long, long time ago. "Pre-season games"???? Exhibitions that did not count?

I do now remember that the 1973 game is the last non-sellout in Notre Dame Stadium because the students were gone. I thought it was the Saturday after Thanksgiving, not Thanksgiving Day.

Other than the 1996 game, were their any other ND Thursday games after 1973?

By "pre-season", I meant the extra game they used to get an exemption for at the begining of the season. The kickoff classic, etc. It looks like the Virginia game was one of those (I think it was Virginia, it was played 8/31).

Yep. Four games in my lifetime. I was 6 years old in 1963.

Three games since then. I do now remember the Virginia game being a Kickoff Classic, but did not recall it being on a Thursday.

I simply did not recall the Vanderbilt game. I thought the 1973 Thanksgiving Day game with Air Force was a Saturday game.

I was wrong and my memory is bad. Can we agree that Thursday games are a very rare thing for ND in the modern era?

I hope that no future Thursday ND games happen.

Thank you for the link to college football trivia - looks like a very cool site!
(Now I'll have something new to explore)

Well, obviously it's very rare. When I saw the topic, I looked it up just to see and I learned something about the Thanksgiving game. Games were played on odd days way back when, so I'm wasn't surprised to see a number of them were played on Thursday, but I wasn't aware of a Thanksgiving game and the Air Force game was really surprising.

I'd think with the ACC providing 6? or is it 8 Thursday games a year and 2-3 Friday games and ESPN's desire to have attractive teams in those time slots that it would be a virtual guarantee that ND will play on Thursday in the near future. ND is doing well not to have any Thursday home games but Clemson has made the same demand, so it's not unreasonable. Most ACC southern schools won't play on Friday, so I doubt ND will have to play then either.
