Why not Maryland - is there a story?

Because that game isn't going away no matter what conference each school ends up in.

Thanks - that makes sense.

Along these same lines:
http://blog.newsok.com/berrytramel/2012/...-for-2013/
"* The Big 12 wrestling schools would like to become affiliate members of another wrestling league. And Cody has one in mind: the Mid-American Conference. Six MAC schools wrestle — Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Ohio. Missouri and Northern Iowa have joined the MAC for this season, and Old Dominion joins next season."

I think it'd be good to pick up the B12 teams for wrestling.

I also think picking up other Big 5 teams that need a home (B12/SEC women's rowing, SEC men's soccer, B10 men's lacrosse etc) would make the Olympic sports deeper and would probably bring more eyes to the championships in these sports.

That's actually not a bad idea. If the SEC/B1G wishes to subsidize their olympic sports with their football revenue, then I would be more than happy to take their excess olympic sports, package it with ACC olympic sports, and keep the profit.

They (SEC/B1G teams) just shouldn't get ACC distributions, or a vote on ACC matters.

Affiliate members don't get votes. I could see the lacrosse package being sold separately and the ACC as a whole taking a 1/3 to 1/2 share for naming rights and admin fee then splitting the remainder with the participating schools.

I believe the ACC subsidizes costs of its teams to travel to and participate in league championships. Such costs would have to be weighed, and I don't know if taking on multiple affiliates would make it worthwhile.

Then don't subsidize affiliate members. Doesn't seem that hard to remedy. Other conferences aren't paying for travel.

Good point. I guess it would depend on the popularity of the sport and travel costs. However, if the ACC does start a network, then I am all for free riding off the Coalition of Evil (SEC + B1G) so long as it is profitable.

Giving WVU a taste of ACC and withholding the real deal just seems cruel (insert high school dating flashbacks here)

Seems like a good way to strengthen these potential "alliances" that are being discussed. Non revenue sport integration and promotion would be a great side-effect.

I know that we have WVU on our football schedule for the next few years (03-puke), but does Pitt? Or did that series get dropped?

Men's lacrosse would be a bit more problematic given the potential popularity of it and the B10 having as many members as the ACC:
Notre Dame
Syracuse
UVA
Duke
UNC

Potential adds:
Johns Hopkins
Penn State
Ohio State
Rutgers
Maryland
Michigan

Navy isn't in the Big10, SEC, or Big12. They have a conference that sponsors lacrosse already. I only included Johns Hopkins because they are an elite academic school with only one D1 sport that they happen to be great at.
