The whatever the BE football conference will be called is going to be a horrible football league. They might as well take UAb and be done. ECU has got to be pissed about what they have walked into. At this point I'm not even sure I know where everyone is supposed to be over the next couple years.

It mentions in the article and the thread that Navy is still joining them next year and that Tulsa probably, or another CUSA team maybe will probably be invited to be the 12th team. Wouldn't doubt that they might expand more than that. Since it is mainly based on football would probably go after some good football teams from CUSA. Imagine Temple may drop football from all the crap their fans seem to feel about being left in the BE after being in once and then having to join the MAC and then moving back to the BE to accommodate them. Temple doesn't have a large upside in football and is pretty pinned in anyway. Don't think that the BE football will invite UMass until at least they have their home stadium updated a lot. Taking all day for their students to bus to Boston to play football games just doesn't do it. So if Temple does that another CUSA team would probably be invited. Think their feeling is if they get large enough and enough good football teams they will do alright on media contracts.

Why should ECU be pissed. They knew exactly what they were walking into. They knew that SDSU or Boise was not going to be there. There was already to much smoke when ECU and Tulane was invited. They also knew the C7 was gone.

ECU is still just a football only, so they may still have to find a home for their olympic sports and basketball.

Before the Blown Up Big East ever plays a down I predict that Cincy and UConn will be gone, Houston and SMU will be headed to the MWC. And Temple may head to the BE with the C7 and take their football to the MAC again.

If that would happen that leaves Memphis, UCF, USF, Tulane and ECU. ECU and Tulane have yet to send their notice to CUSA. It might be wise for them to never do so, but I don't see it not happening.

ECU wanted into the BE for so many years and was ticked off so much at being rejected they probably would do it again just to prove a point. Most of their fans think it will work out well in the long run. Especially if they take their new conference to at least twelve members. Maybe they are right, especially if Navy does go ahead and join next year like they supposedly are still going to do. Tulsa will make a good addition, but wouldn't be surprised to see them expand more.

I don't ever see Navy joining. What is in it for them now. Everyone lines up to play Army and Navy, they can still pick and choose who they want to play. I know they have said they are still coming. But so did Boise State up until 13 hours before announcing they were staying in the MWC.

And I agree with you. ECU has been so enamored with the BE they didn't care what it looked like, they were going no matter what. I think they would have left right now if offered, even knowing what a jumbled up mess it is.

The old Big East will not survive. I don't see a way for it to avoid complete dissolution. Just a question of how long it will take.

Considering they do not really have a name right now for the football portion of the BE you would have to be correct, even if just by name alone.

I don't think there are really any winners in all this crap of conference realignment except maybe Utah & TCU

Utah is the only real winner in terms of the realignment lotto, TCU and Louisville hit 5 numbers and WVU got a get out of jail free card.

And WVU is already unhappy with being in the current Big 12.

WVU has wanted in the ACC even before the BE started playing football in the early 90s. As long as Wake Forest, UNC and Duke are in the ACC, WVU will not be.

You can add vt, uva, Miami, and probably BC to that list as well

RE: From the CUSA board......BE going to 12?
Navy is supposed to join for football in 2015, not next season, and their AD has repeatedly said they will not join earlier than that year. With the reduction in the expected television money, I think Navy will pull a TCU\Boise\SDSU and never join at all, which will probably be announced soon.

As for Temple, they have no option to play hoops with the non-football Big East because of Villanova, which helped block them from full Big East membership from 1990-2004 and only agreed to let the Owls come back this past year because the football side was desperate to replace WVU.

VA Tech, BC and Miami said when they left the BE in 2005 they would never play WVU again. As of today that still holds true. None of them have played WVU and none have signed a series in the future.
