That's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried that Friday in Atlanta was a three- or four-way shouting match and that you guys can't agree among yourselves, so there's no way for you to agree with us.

Probably was. That was my orignal point. The football school are being asked to essentially start over from scratch (when they never had any intention of doing so and never considered doing so). It took the C-7 at least a year to get on the same page with that concept. The football schools are being asked to arrive at a concensus on wheather or not to completely start over in a few weeks. Worse yet, it appears to be a stuation where only a few schools profit while the rest of the schools suffer a massive loss. In light of the recent TV contract developments, I dont think that its going too far to say the issue is potentially polarizing enough to end the conference.

I guess I was right after all.
"On Monday, more formal discussions will resume. They could get the deal done on Monday, but it will probably drag into Tuesday or even Wednesday before the announcement will be made.
The final money figures will be worked out by the lawyers, who are the only real winners in this circus.
If they can get it done by Tuesday night, Fox sports can have its press conference with the Catholic 7 as stars of the show. If not….well, let’s just say sometimes paybacks are indeed expensive."

I've been thinking the same thing. This,is not what the football schools signed on for.

I think that's more of a Blaudshcun opinion peice. I don't think the football schools are delaying on purpose. I think Aresco is ready to move on the deal. I think there is big divide within the football schools on the wisdom of doing so. Keep in mind, keeping the name benefits all the football schools. Selling the name benefits just 4 football schools. The big mistake I think was Aresco really should have talked to his schools BEFORE trying to broker a deal to sell the name--not after.

He's the mouth piece for Aresco. Maybe Aresco told him that the presidents are holding out until weds to screw over the C7. One last F-U.

Its certainly possible. In some cases I think Blaudschun leakes Arescos view--in this case however, I think its just Blaudshcuns educated guess.
There are some posts on the (old) Big East site from UHCougar that you might find interesting from late yesterday night. His sources are saying that there is no real agreement among the football schools regarding the name issue, the football schools are unhappy enough with the ESPN deal that they may refuse to sign it, and that theres actually no hard offer for the name from the basketball schools as of Friday. I tend to think he's probably right. Fridays events make much more sense when taken in that light. I have said all along that theres likley to be alot of polarization on the issue of selling the name among the football schools. Four schools make out wonderfully, the newbies pay 3-9 million just to start from scratch. Good luck getting a quick agreement from the football schools with those messy dynamics in play. If your interested, the UHCougar posts begin on post #31 of the thread linked below. FWIW-He has been quite accurate in the past.
