There are quite a few things wrong about even thinking about linking up with the C7. The two most prominent are that Memphis isn't a small Catholic or private school who can't afford to field a FBS team. That is the reason why they are filing for divorce in the the first place.

After that, what other advantages could be gained by linking up with a bunch of northeastern schools?

So says a blogger in Philly. What other evidence is there of this supposed invite?

We aren't joining the C7, so I wouldn't worry too much about why we shouldn't join.

I would join the C-7 for everything except football, which we can play in another conference or as an independent. In fact, we could probably draw better playing our natural rivals more which would increase attendance. Our main objective is to survive, and the national exposure these schools get, is alot more than we will get in the NBE.

Who says the C7 doesn't want us? It's been reported by a blogger from Philly that Memphis was contacted a couple weeks ago and we told them no. But that was all before the TV deal was announced and so low and the news that the C7 are leaving this July instead of next July. So our approach might have changed since then. For all we know, Bowen may be on the phone with presidents from those schools vying for an opening. WE DO NOT KNOW!

I'm sure ill be scorned for this, bu you can still build a football program in CUSA while at the same time salvage your basketball program which is the life blood of your school & city. Cincy, UCONN & Temple won't be thinking like this. & that's why they'd be forgotten & we'll be in a top 5 basketball conference.

The University itself is one of a few of the main veins that pump blood into the City, not BB. Folks should have been supporting FB all along.........to enhance the University and thereby pumping more blood. Hence, we wouldn't be in this position.

If we were genuinely asked to join the C7 and said no we should call them back and say yes with the quickness.

He just presents info and rarely makes a prediction. AAA states what he believes COULD happen.

We are not a church/basketball only school.

We play all sports like the big boys.

We're nothing like the "big boys". Except in basketball and that's starting to slip away now, thanks to the conference we're in now and about to be in next year.

LMAO

How the hell is BB starting to slip?

We having out best year since Cal left and just signed one of the top 3 classes in the nation.

That made no sense at all.

The perception as a major program is slipping. We are getting dogged out by the media. It took an 18-game winning streak to even get some recognition, then we choked and back to criticism. This conference is killing us. And guess what? The new conference won't be much better.

Winning trumps that. We went from the mid major tag to be ranked #1 in the country and being the overall #1 seed in the tournament. There were still whispers of CUSA? but the committee saw the light and we WERE the best team in the country that year.

Win enough and long enough and keep the proverbial pimp had strong in the tourney and you could be in the OVC and still be respected and feared.

The idea was floated, there was nothing formal though. And this wasn't the first time we were asked about it either, our original BE invite over a year ago was for basketball only.

If the recent news about UCONN pans out going to the bigeast we'd do well to follow suit. I was calling this years ago. It's happening.

It's either drop football to fcs or go independent. Either way our football would die. Joining the Big East is not an option.

Disagree. We could get better money in the Big East basketball only. And continue to build the football program in the likes of conference USA. And make ourselves more attractive to the big 12 or ACC in the future.
