If he plans to sell us the name, there's no point to the incoming schools rebranding two years in a row--might as well roll out the Big 11/Metro Conference/Conference America this spring.

It's also possible that Aresco thought he could make his schools more money in over the whole contract by lowballing the 2013-14 basketball contract. He didn't get very much money though, so I'm not sure how that was supposed to work.

Well if we do leave after this season and take the name do they get to keep their BCS AQ for that last season?

I'd think so. They're keeping the same NCAA autobid.

I appreciate the creative touch.....but Lord those names are awful. They can just shut it down if we are stuck with those. The Mountain West is a solid sounding name---and we might get stuck with that pitiful "Conference America" (basically, CUSA spelled sideways).

Probably not--the Aresco League HQ isn't staying in Providence. We'll probably take over the lease. 02-13-banana

Seriously, I think we're leaving the entire Realignment Fund and taking the name. I guess you can have some of the staplers. Just don't take Milton's Swingline.

Big 11 isn't awful--it's just like the Big 10 or Big 12, except it's accurate if Navy sticks around.

Metro isn't bad, it was a successful conference when it was around.

Conference America is terrible, but that's the name Aresco mentioned at some point.

I'll say this- was on BE board and someone brought up a great point....

it makes no sense for the new schools coming in to change everything for the Big East name, and then have to do it again in 2014. I could easily see if we don't do the split this year(though I more and more am seeing the split happening now)- we would probably have to compensate at least the new schools having to do it the 2nd time.
