NBE tv deal signed- going to ESPN- with impacts to C7
Brett McMurphy @McMurphyESPN
Big East deal w/ESPN is $10M for 2013-14 hoops only; $20M for 2014-20 for football/hoops; CBS also worth at least $2M/year in '14
I'd have to think despite the Baldushun report earlier this means split happens this year.

Starting in 2014, it's about $22M for football/hoops whether 11 or 12 members RT @H_Scott012: how much is that per team?

interesting nugget from ESPN:
The Big East's $10 million figure for the men's basketball season in 2013-14 is based on the seven Catholic schools remaining in the league next season, sources said. If those schools leave the Big East before next year, that figure would be reduced.

Not so fast: Quote:The Big East's $10 million figure for the men's basketball season in 2013-14 is based on the seven Catholic schools remaining in the league next season, sources said. If those schools leave the Big East before next year, that figure would be reduced.
The seven Catholic basketball schools -- DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and Villanova -- are expected to leave the Big East and form a 10- to 12-team league, but not until 2014. Fox Sports is willing to pay the seven schools as much as $3 million annually, sources said.
ESPN president John Skipper recently told SI.com that he also believes Fox Sports will get the Catholic 7 deal, but Skipper said ESPN would be interested in sub-licensing some games.

So less than a million for each school (in 2013)? Interesting..maybe the C7 will still try to get out and the other group will get closer to $1M.

just curious....
did you notice this line: Fox Sports is willing to pay the seven schools as much as $3 million annually, sources said.
kind of curious what does that mean for the other new 3-5 schools?
kind of an odd use of words quite frankly.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if the C7 stays with the Big East in 2013, that $10M will be divided by Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Seton Hall, DePaul, Providence, St. John's, Louisville, Notre Dame, UConn, USF, Cincinnati, UCF, Houston, SMU, Memphis, Tulane, and Temple.
So....$10m/18 = $555,555 per team.

That's a pretty good deal for ESPN.

Hell, with NBC needing content, I think the bias would be north of Thamel's 3.5mm number. Could bidding get to 4+ all told?
ESPN already said they want to acquire some portion of the rights

That sucks...going to have to create ESPN 3 and ESPNU2 and ESPN8 (Da Ocho) just to air all the games.

The nBE is gonna be stuck on ESPNU and ESPN3. No way they are putting SMU vs. Tulane football on one of their premier channels on Saturday. ESPN did this just to keep NBC from getting any content. The money is nothing to them.

Potential SEC and ACC networks could free up many windows for the nBE, particularly on 2 and U.

I can't imagine we're going to stick around for half a million bucks.
