Don't get me wrong, I was hoping for a combo with NBC but this day and age you can't get away from ESPN.

Nothing is finalized until the presidents vote on it. That being said, as much as we all hate it-ESPN runs college sports. If we are shut out of ESPN it would be a much tougher go in the near future. If we can some favorable time slots ESPN is still the way to go. They won't blackball and bash the BE nearly as much if we sign with them.

You know ESPN-3 counts on the ESPN family of networks. They also retain the right to spin games off to other networks--Fox Sports RSN's and Comcast RSN's....

I am talking about the 2.2M each team earns. CUSA gets about 1.16M a year.

sweet, double our money.

So 5-6 years for SMU to break even on entry/exit fees. I hope the entry fees are reduced.

If the Big East signs with ESPiN for the deal as reported by McMurphy, I predict Aresco is gone shortly after June 30, 2013 . . . epic fail. . .

Starting in 2014, it's about $22M for football/hoops whether 11 or 12 members

$22 million divided by 11 teams = 2 million per team
$22 million divided by 12 teams = 1.83 million per team

I'd be surprised if they go to the RSN's. I think more likely would be Fox Sports-1 and Fox Sports-2.

also look for OOC games heavily to be on ESPN. I mean, ECU in 2014 plays UNC at home. 2015- South Carolina, VT. 2016 NC St, WV. all of those should be on ESPN or ESPN2. 2014 SMU hosts TCU and Texas A&M. Same thing there.

Yup. A long list of games 360 slots with "Big East" writtent all over them. This is horrible.

I have a theory that Im stealing from Frank who mentioned it earlier. Guess who is currently has a actual vote on what network we will be on? Basically, 9 of 11 teams primarily known for basketball that likley wont be here in two years. They want thier basketball on ESPN and not on NBC-Sports.

03-idea Sounds pretty good to me.

Assuming 12 schools, in football that's about 5 football games per week. In other words almost every game should be on one of their networks each week. Championship Game back on ESPN is a huge improvement over CUSA. This also tells me we'll have 12 schools for sure.

In basketball that's about 2 games per week plus the tournament.

So if we go to 12 teams, we paid all of those exit/entry fees for about 700,000.00. Sweet.

No ESPN games at all. I can see some ESPN-U stuff, lots of weekday games, and a heavy helping of ESPN-3 and RSN's. Fox has plenty of Big-12 and Pac-12 inventory. They might slide a game or two on Fox Sports-2, but no way we see any Fox Sports-1---that will be reserved for Fox's Big-12/Pac-12 inventory. This is a total crash and burn. Im convinced this is being done by the basketball centric schools. They want thier basketball on ESPN and arent that worried about being here for more than a year anyway.

Fair enough, that should be counted as well. There is also the issue as to how much of a share Navy gets, as they are not a full member.

I think you are wrong. I think for instance TCU @ SMU in 2014- they'll air that game on ESPN as much to show TCU as they are SMU. Same with ECU's good OOC games.

They might no be the only ones. I think our days of raiding CUSA may be done. If exit fees and entry fees are really 7 or 9 million as claimed (which I dont buy) thats a long payoff period. Long payoff and a bunch of games on ESPN-3, not the most attractive offer a school has ever seen. Boise's move looks briliant now. They will likely make at least twice what we make.
