OK, I'll be the first on here to admit it: I had never, ever heard the phrase "Harlem shake" until seven days ago, and I've been under the impression that this phrase was created within the past few weeks to go along with this song and this meme craze. I can see where the Harlem residents would be offended by non-Harlem residents doing something out of ignorance that they perceive as disrespectful to their culture, BUT it's likely that many of the people doing this so-called "Harlem shake" had also never heard of it until recently, they have no idea what the true Harlem shake is, and they are just imitating what they've seen on the internet over the past few weeks. I think they're just being college students and having fun and aren't intentionally meaning to be offensive and disrespectful to the Harlem culture.

Then again, we can't see which videos they are watching (they might not even be the college basketball videos), so maybe they have good reason to feel disrespected. I dunno.

My take is this; the kids are having fun making the videos and nobody is being hurt so I have no problem. But a lot of folks aren't exactly "thrilled" about these videos that they feel is disrespectful to Harlem or the Original Harlem Shake. I guess to each its own.

I have no problem with it. Don't know why I was called out?

Still doesn't beat the Dip, the Cupid Shuffle, & the tootsie roll.

If they are considered part of the conference, then don't put UCF and Memphis in it either.

Would have been cooler if UAB actually did the real Harlem Shake instead of just jumping around and dancing like Bevis and Butthead, just like everyone else on the planet. Why don't you just call it the Salsa? It's as much like the Salsa as it is like the real Harlem Shake...

I saw the Miami Heats version last night on TV. Very funny.
