RE: Write up on Stadiums
Lots of bias there. LOL. And are we still in this league? And I believe it's erector set. I would only add that as mid majors we are not going to have a perfect stadium situation. Even FSU has an erector set they have been adding to for 50 years. Find a picture of most SEC schools' stadiums circa 1955 or 1960. Most looked like what the SBC or CUSA look like now. The irony is that the era of the 85k - 110k seat college stadium may be coming to its end if recent attendance figures are any indicator.

Guess you didn't see the "my opinion," of course a "fans" opinion will be bias but I'm use to seeing the brick, concrete, and mortar of the Houch.

To answer your question.. again just my opinion but I wish you wasn't. Especially if you consider yourself and the rest of your conference mates "mid-major"

I love how every stadium in the Sun Belt outside of Bowling Green and Miami have at least 30,000 seats and we were the ones who were singled out for being too large. What would you suggest would be an appropriate capacity? 22,000 like you guys? 2012 was the first season in years that we didn't go over that number at least once.

2011 Georgia Tech 30,502
2011 WKU 23,307
2010 Minnesota 25,908
2010 Troy 28,010
2009 Memphis 28,105
2009 Miss State 23,882
2008 Troy 22,307
2008 Maryland 22,605
2008 FAU 25,766
2007 Virginia 23,227

Please tell me more about how 30,000 is "way too big" for our fan base. If our stadium is way too big for us, the only schools who's stadiums aren't way too big for them are WKU(with that capacity I should hope not) Arkansas State(was "way too big" by your logic up until the last few seasons) and Louisiana(similar to stAte in that it's only just been recently that they are winning enough to consistently come close to filling, but they had some huge crowds over the years even when they weren't winning like they are currently.)

We've done a better job in the stands than most in the conference with 30,000 seats, but we're singled out. You are as subtle as a sledgehammer.

No where in my post did I say "number of seats"

the lay out of the stadium tends to give more of a empty feeling with all the metal showing with 15,000 fans sitting in them than a compact stadium with grassy areas like ULL and Ark St.

If the muts could put enough butts in the seats then that wouldn't be a problem. By your own numbers the muts went over 22 thousand at home 23% (based on 6 home games) of the time over the last 7 seasons. Thanks for doing the work for me and then agreeing without even knowing it. I wish it was this easy all the time.

So what's your point? I'm glad we were able to accommodate over 30,000 for the Georgia Tech game.

I suspect us to average over 22,000 this year unless our season just goes to complete crap.

I expect Western Carolina(opener, fans will come out excited due to conference change and still fired up over bowl snub)

Memphis(final trip to Murfreesboro in series, in state rival)

ECU(First C-USA home game, name opponent)

Marshall(name opponent)

I expect all four of those games to exceed 22,000 unless the season is in the tank, if we're winning, I expect Memphis, ECU, and Marshall could all exceed 25,000.

So you asked.. What's the point?

Try reading sometimes and you might see that I already answered your question and so did you.

It's old, ugly, too large

We all have "dreams" and at this point what you "expect" is just that and until the muts put that many butts in the seats year in year out, winning or not...all those empty metal bleachers look awful, on TV and in person

Damn how many times do I need to repeat this?

As many times as it takes to convince someone other than yourself. I wouldn't dream of trading stadiums with Western.

I feel this should be added to your sig, something like "This thread will eventually be stupid." Or perhaps tied into your custom title beneath your screen name somehow.

I don't think you would find any Western fan that would trade The Houch for Floyd Stadium. As a matter of fact I don't think you would find very many other non muts fans that would either.

But that's still not what I said in my OPINION on SBC stadiums.

It's old, ugly, too large and nothing you said disputed that...by your own numbers you agreed. In seven years the muts had Floyd Stadium filled 2/3 or higher 23% of the time.

Have a great day, I have other things to do.

I think you'd be surprised by how many non Western non MT fans would take Floyd over Houchens, with capacity being the main bugaboo for Houchens. Expand that stadium and the debate gets more interesting.

As long as we are getting 28k-30k butts in seats at least once every few years, I'm always going to take our "old, ugly, too large" stadium over your more...um...intimate digs. We more than likely wouldn't have even gotten the home game with Georgia Tech if we had your capacity and we definitely wouldn't be getting Vandy at home twice.

I have been to WKYs stadium and usually I like brick stadiums but I thought Houchens was ugly too. I think Floyd is a mediocre stadium at best but I wouldn't trade it for Houchens. Now Apogee I would in a second!
