Bracket buster match ups?
Aren't the match ups announced soon? We should have a home game against a good team. Would be nice if we could get a good matchup, possibly on TV.

The good TV games (ESPN, ESPN 2) are reserved for the Butler's, VCU's, Missouri Valley's of the Mid-Major world.

The MAC typically gets one TV game (on ESPN U). I would bet anything that Akron or Ohio gets that TV game.

Last year, there were 9 TV games:
Friday, 2/22
-7 PM (ESPN2)
-9 PM (ESPNU)

Saturday, 2/23
-11 AM (ESPNU)
-1 PM (ESPNU)
-3 PM (ESPNU)
-4 PM (ESPN/ESPN2)
-6 PM (ESPN/ESPN2)
-8 PM (ESPN2)
-10 PM (ESPN2)

RE: Bracket buster match ups?
Some teams I would love to see WMU play at home:

Xavier (12-8) *bonus storyline!
Temple (14-6)
G. Mason (12-8)
UCF (15-5)
Detroit (14-8) *bonus storyline!
Indiana St. (14-7)
EKU (14-5)
Utah St. (14-5)

Lot's more out there, but these would be fun games to bring to University Arena IMO.

RE: Bracket buster match ups?
No interest in playing Detroit. Hawkins would veto that game and WMU would have to return a game.

We need a interesting team to visit Kalamazoo for some great crowd appeal on this final go round.
This is the last year of the Bracketbuster games.

You don't think bringing Detroit back to UA would draw interest?

I thought the return game wasn't mandated any more. Not that it matters, okgc is right, Hawk won't play UDM (nor should he be forced to).

What is the point? Hawkins dropped UDM from the WMU schedule for quite a few reasons.

There are lots of other interesting matchups.

RE: Bracket buster match ups?
Can you imagine if it ended up being UofD? You could cut the tension with a knife if that happens. Although, I cant say that I would mind seeing Doug Anderson throw down a few monster dunks again. But it would be painful to see a few former Broncos and others that maybe should have been Broncos playing against us.

I'd love to see a school with a little cache' come to UA to get a little buzz and electricity there. The last time I really remember that happening with this Bracketbuster game was maybe the first time we hosted it, when College of Charleston came in the year after making a bit of noise in the NCAA Tourney. Seems like that was the Mike Williams/Ben Reed season.

Regardless, I would love to see UA full and energized again. And if this team keeps winning, we just might start to see a few more fannies in the seats.

Some highlights of that game:

Man that place was a madhouse. I wish I was on campus for that game ('05-'09)

I was there. It was glorious. If only every game could have that many people there. I get shivers watching those videos still. Mad house. By far the loudest I've heard UA and would probably compete with some of the loudest games I've heard at Breslin - not lying.

Ahhhhhh the days when Hawk could implement an out of bounds play.

RE: Bracket buster match ups?
Agreed. The place was packed to the rafters. And was LOUD and the fans were excited for the team and the opportunity.

However, I think this just shows another perfect example of Bronco fans coming out to support a winner.
The 2 seasons that stick out in my memory the most are 1997-98 season with Saddi Washington, Jason Kimbrough and Rashad Johnson leading the way. My wife cant stand basketball, and wanted to go to every game because it was so exciting. They went on to beat Clemson in the 1st round of the NCAA before falling to Stanford. And then 2003-04 with Mike Williams and Ben Reed. Lost to Vandy in the 1st round of the NCAA.

Both of those seasons, the UA was packed and loud. Students filled the student section much like they do Lawson now. And the community was excited.

Even though this team has won 5 in a row, I just dont feel the same buzz......YET. But if they keep this crew together for a few years and they can keep winning, it might start to change.

RE: Bracket buster match ups?
We went 21-8 in the 97-98 season. It got kick started when we beat Michigan in the opener.

The '03-04 team also had the benefit of going to the NIT the previous season.

Both are pretty good recipes for increasing attendance.

FYI-the bracketbuster game in '04 is the only WMU sporting event that I've had to sit in my assigned seat in the last twenty years. Normally you can move about or sit near your assigned seat. Not so much during that game. The other won I remember was when Michigan came here in 88-89? I was about 10 years old then...place was packed.
