Revisiting my original 0-15 Chip prediction
Yes the Chips have won a few MAC games against a couple of MAC cellar dwellers and all on their home court. That may be the end of the road for this "wonder team"
As I stated initially this team runs a gimmick offense in order to mask its lack of size and talent. Yes, they can knock down wide open threes. That can be attributed totally to one player, Kyle Randall. Randall drives into the paint and does a nice job of kicking out. There are a lot of kids who can sit in their driveway and knockdown 21 footers when they're wide open. When they're not wide open, it's not so good.
BG exposed it first when they were down 21 pts and put in a zone . Five minutes later it was tied. NIU exposed it when they surrounded Randall in the paint and didn't let him kick out. And Western exposed it with a combination of what NIU did, and a constantly switching D that didn't allow for many open looks at the arch.
Teams have plenty of tape on each other now, and gimmicks simply won't work except against very weak teams. The Chips currently stand at 2-3 in the MAC with 10 games remaining. I can see a maximum of 3 wins down the stretch (Miami, NIU, BSU), but I could just as easily see no wins down the stretch leaving them at 2-13. I see the blowouts becoming more frequent, and the severity of them draining that OOC confidence. If and when that happens it could get ugly.
New prediction- 4-11

Good assessment. I say they'll end up adjusting and do better, and go 5-10, possibly 6-9 if their coach proves to be decent. But it wouldn't surprise me if they go 4-11 either.

LOL. Way to cover your bases Todd. From what I saw of this team, they're very lucky to be in the MAC West where they can be a little competitive.

Nice to go to the MAC basketball site and see the feature article is about our lop sided win at CMU. Don't know who wrote the article, but it sure reads as if the author was from WMU!

I don't see what they can adjust? Decide to take it inside to their bigs? Got none. 3 wins max the rest of the way.

Davis' quotes in that article spells it out perfectly and honestly. They have little margin for error and if Randle is off, they have NO MARGIN for error which is almost impossible.
If they get two more home wins, I'd be surprised, but then they're playing MAC West competition so anything can happen.

RE: Revisiting my original 0-15 Chip prediction
Pretty good summary from Davis about the team's shortcomings, of which there are many.
The Broncos were forced into 11 first-half turnovers on nine steals by the Chippewas, who would end the game with a season-high 12. But Central couldn't capitalize on Western's miscues, turning the 18 turnovers into just 16 points.
"We've been trying to build our pressure defense. In another year or two we could be a really good pressure defense team, forcing 17 or 18 turnovers a night. In the last two games we have had to go to that more, being down. We did a good job getting the steals, and had two or three more in our hands that we lost, but didn't hit the shots on the other end. If you make a couple of those, that's how you make a double-digit lead disappear pretty quickly."
Randall brought the Chippewas out of the locker room by hitting the first attempt from the floor - a spark they needed as they knocked down their first three attempts to come within six in the first four minutes. But the Broncos, after missing their first jumper of the second half, came back with a three of their own and then took the ball inside, scoring on 11 of their next 12 possessions to keep the Chippewas at bay and build a 16-point advantage.
At the eight-minute media timeout the Broncos were still shooting at a 73 percent clip in the half, hitting 11-of-15 attempts while the Chippewas had hit just 5-of-15, all from behind the arc. Central finally was able to convert its first two-point field goal of the half at the 4:46 mark.
"We are a team that doesn't have a lot of room for error this year," said Davis. "We do our best and don't make excuses. Tonight, we were making runs and getting back in there, and they made some really tough shots on us.
"We had quite a few shots that were really good open looks that didn't go down. In the first half they were 4-for-8 from three and we were 2-of-11. And that was the difference in the game. They hit threes and we didn't hit threes, and that's kind of what we're built on. We have three-point shooters at every spot and when you get out-shot from three it's going to be an uphill battle to find a way to stay in games."

RE: CMU vs. WMU Predictions?
Based upon past "elfoldos" by the bronkies, I will fail to get too excited about their 2012-2013 edition!
They have won NOTHING yet this season and have very seldom won a MAC BB Championship! Let's let the season play out.
