Biggest 2 problems with divisions...
It gives false hope to teams that win, or come close to winning a division. And it doesn't reward the best teams.
The tournament, until recent years, never rewarded the "best teams"...only the top in each division, and then by record. The current tournament is created properly, but they might as well nix the divisions as playing in the West gives a team an unfair advantage.
If the MAC isn't going to reward the top teams from each division...then why in the world would they keep the divisions? What is the point other than to make scheduling a little easier for the home office?
It's nice to win the West...but it no longer carries the weight it once did. It's all about securing a top 4 seed.

This is the biggest problem I have with it. No incentive to win your division.

Currently MAC divisions are simply away to arrange a somewhat balanced scheduling with 12 team and a 16 game MAC schedule.
Scheduling is NEVER fair to everyone.

Agreed.
There is always going to be teams that get the short end of the stick in scheduling.
But in the last decade the East has been far and above the West in basketball. I don't want to measure ourselves against Ball St, Toledo, CMU, EMU and NIU right now. I want to measure ourselves against 11 other MAC schools in basketball.
The divisions were created with balance in mind. That balance disappeared when Ball St and Toledo fell on hard times. Scrap the divisions and go to one.
Follow the lead of EVERY relevant basketball conference in the country.
