Why would your trusted source know anything about the inner workings of UVa?

I'm not saying there is any truth to the rumor but why couldn't someone in the Texas administration or Ad's office not have relationship(s) with someone in the UVa administration or AD's office? People in academia and collegiate athletics commonly move around to move up so most have built relationships at the schools they formerly worked in. It is very plausible someone with in UT might have connections within UVa.

I will never say never but all the comments that have come out of the Big Ten suggest to me that it's 14 to now. Too many people are looking for a grand plan here, when it really was simpler than that. I don't see more defections in the coming months (regardless of what happens long term)

So you are saying we can't talk y'all into taking UVA?

Pretty please?

What if we throw in a dozen tickets to the ACC Basketball Tournament?

Chris, it spelled "Swaim"...

But if Swaim is the only source for this rumor, I'm going to have to wait for someone reputable to confirm it. Swaim has said so much stuff that hasn't come to pass that I'm very skeptical about relying on his report by itself...

It's much more likely your insider is just repeating something he's heard in the echo chamber of conference realignment rumors.

RE: Rumor: UVA to Big 10 next week?
Come on, people! Haven't we all learned by now that the most reliable rumors come from the school that's supposedly moving? The rumors from schools not involved or not even in the same conference that's involved can't be trusted worth a damn. Who from UVA has said anything close to this as being realistic? What UVA reporter has even broached the subject? And of course we have the impending timeline thrown in there, too, just to give everyone a "heads up". If it's really happening next week, UVA beat writers would be all over it. And they're not.

Someone said something roughly similar on the UC 247 board about a week back. I have no insider info, but just the stuff coming out of the UC camp makes me believe that we will have more movement in the next 2 months. Everyone's guess is B10 and B12 or SEC picking off ACC teams, but it may just be B12 adding teams. Until UC gets an official invite or I hear it from multiple sources, I'm not going to get too excited.

247 thread
A friend of mine who lives in Columbus and knows some people at the Ohio State University told him that Georgia Tech and Virginia have been invited to the Big Ten and they are ready to jump ASAP,but the real story is that UC could be in a bidding war for their services to go to either the ACC or the Big 12. This is what he told me: The Big 12 wants Florida State,Clemson,UC and either UConn or a surprise school, which he told me is Boise State. Boise State wants out the Mountain West and they are begging to come to the Big 12. ACC is realizing that the 4 to 6 schools are ready to leave,so they are looking at UC,UConn,Temple,USF and UCF. He told me that UC has the upper hand in where they want to go and everyone, including ESPN,knows it. ESPN doesn't want UC in the ACC or the Big 12 because they are considered small time in football and in basketball. I told him that I will believe it when I see it,but anything is possible. I asked him what do you see happening in conference realignment and he told me that he thinks that UC will end up in the Big 12,not the ACC. Hey,I don't know what is going to happen but I wouldn't surprise me that UC will be in a good conference within a year. Go Cats!!!!!!!

Sigh. FSU and Clem aren't going to the Big 12. They're not stupid. If FSU were going to do that they would have done it last year. They did a feasibility study and it doesn't make sense. Louisville doesn't want to go west either. They all can make just as much money in the ACC and less travel for their non-revenue sports.

Boise and Miami are not being considered and to to previous post, if there is no ACC Louisville will move. Not anti-ACC at all.

I am a huge Big 12 fan and want Louisville in.

I'd be alright with this but what is stopping the Big 12 from taking Miami and Pittsburgh too at that point. Either way, I strongly doubt any moves are made until a settlement is reached in Maryland v. ACC. There is just too much uncertainty in the landscape right now with no real incentive to accelerate the timetable for expansion. One thing is for certain, from Bowlsby's comments the Big 12 is eyeing an ACC raid (Clemson/FSU) and the Big 12 seems to be open to "growing" potential additions as Big 12 members which makes me feel better about Cincinnati's chances at rejoining the big boy table. Cincinnati has a lot of potential as a football program in a major media market with access to PBS. The fact that there is only one big time football program (OSU) currently in the 7th most populous state leaves a lot of room for growth.

If Maryland gets away with paying less than 30 million (22-27 million is my guess), which is likely at this point, all bets are off on what Florida St. decides to do. They hold the cards in this round of conference realignment and they will not be happy if their television revenue isn't in the same ballpark as Florida. I still think that the B1G makes the first move but it will be FSU's decision that will make or break the ACC.

RE: Rumor: UVA to Big 10 next week?
I think a lot of people are underestimating how hard it's going to be to get schools to move. Virginia is a school where it's big alumni consider the school a southern school. Things were hard at Maryland, Virginia will be a lot harder. Meanwhile, it's doubtful the Big 12 would be making Florida State/Clemson much more (if any) and going to geographic less friendlily conference isn't worth that move. Until one of those pieces move, I don't see anyone going anywhere and I think they are both more tied to the ACC than many believe.

Beyond that, the Big Ten is "inactive, but alert." I don't think they'll be going out and asking anyone. If there is movement, it will be from the schools themselves initiating and I don't see that happening now.

RE: Rumor: UVA to Big 10 next week?
The only thing people underestimate is panic. If they truly believe there are 4 super-conferences, there can and probably will be movement. Ok, so NC & Duke can't leave but what if GT, UofL and Pitt type teams leave. The good not great teams do not want to be left behind. If there is another leak in the boat, watch the schools scramble.

If a GOR is as solid as everyone thinks it is, why hasen't the ACC come out and signed one yet. That would show strength and solidarity.

I don't think the B10 is ever inactive. They will keep trying to shake the ACC tree until they get
ND.

Because it's not and if the ACC wins this lawsuit that 50 mill will make things REAL tough.

Not saying you are wrong, but why is that likely? I'd be surprised if anything happens until MD is settled. I would not be surprised if soft offers have already been made pending MD's results.
